Looking at getting LG Optimus S, any comments?

Hi, Ting is selling a refurbished LG Optimus S phone for $73 which after the $25 referral coupon gets it to under $50 which seems like a deal... i'm coming from a DroidX on Verizon which is running 2.3 so can anyone note of any problems they've ran into with the LG Optimus S smartphone? My main goal is to just use it as a phone, texting, and hitting Gmail and Google Plus when out and about. Plus tethering would be nice so can someone comment on how well the Tethering works?

I don't do games, I rarely stream video though I do stream audio from time to time, but hopefully I can stay under the 2 Gig limit from Ting. I'm currently on the Unlimited plan from Verizon which I hate to get rid of, but given my 2+ year old DroidX has a failing screen I'll have to move to another plan regardless to get a new phone. Figure I'll try Ting since I love what they offer and there's no contract so I can always move to something else if I don't like it in a few months.

Migrating from a Samsung i500, a prehistoric smartphone, the Optimus S is the only Android I’ve had. Sprint had to replace it twice early on, but this third has been wunnerful for well over a year.

I did notice the Gingerbread update acting a little goofy so, with a trip to the store, I downgraded back to the original Froyo. I doubt if a further upgrade will ever appear, as this model is becoming prehistoric as well.

So, other than a rough start in my case, the Optimus has been quite reliable.
 
I like the Optimus so much I bought the refurb as well. It is really short on internal memory which makes rooting well worth the effort even if only to dump the bloatware.

Currently running CM9 and loving it.
 
The real funny thing is that well Sprint was charging for the refurbished Optimus, the new ones Of the exact same model were free for new plans and upgraders.

I didn't get it from Sprint but from Ting which is a different phone carrier who just uses the Sprint network. Ting doesn't do contracts so the phones aren't subsidized which is why the phones cost more.
 
I got my Optimus the same way, through that Ting special deal. So far, loving the phone and ESPECIALLY loving Ting. Highly recommend it. Went from like $200 a month to $30. Can't beat that.
 
Is Ting powed by sprint? If so why not go with the cheaper virgin mobile, and get The LG Optimus V? $35 before tax 300 mins, unlimited texts and data.
 
The Optimus S has been a lot of fun. I've had it quite awhile, and have found I can live with it's memory limitations by only keeping programs installed which I use daily. The main complaint I have with it is that the touch screen sometimes seems sluggish, but for all I know, that's a feature of poorly written apps, not the phone. I have six phones on Sprint, and I like Sprint. All six phones have true unlimited data, but none of the phones ever exceeded even 1 GB until three of them were upgraded to IPhone 4s. Suddenly, lots of data usage. Now one phone comes close to 2 GB usage, two phones approach 1 GB, three phones under 300 MB. Sprint and I are happy with that and with the multi phone rate we get. So far (over two years) Sprint has treated me very nicely. It is really good to know my bill never goes crazy with excessive usage.
