Metro buys its phones from the manufacturer.
They're still selling them because they've still got them stockpiled, even if the manufacturer isn't actively producing them anymore.
maybe a month ago i had probs with my esteem and had to send it back in,well they tell me that they dont have any esteems in stock,so they sent me a lg connect, well when i recieved it,i was not happy due to the fact that all the assceries i have for my esteem,i felt i was being robbed plus the price diff. so i kepted complaining and finally they called me and told me that they had one come in,so now i have my esteem back,so supply and demand on them are disappearing, from the chat i had with lg,maybe this will help people understand a little of how to handle it if you have to return your phone--------->
1:32 AM Gus: Hello Jay martinez. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today?
11:35 AM Jay martinez: hello,i see that lg has discontiued many phones, looks like lg is doing away with gingerbread? if thats the case, what happens to everyone that still owns a phone with that os,and warrantys, will you get a different phone,or will your carrier give a discount,or trade in deal
11:39 AM Gus: Glad to help out here but for the moment we still have phones running gingerbread.
11:39 AM Gus: In any case each year they are discontinued to open room for new phones and products.
11:39 AM Gus: As well, the phones only have 3 years from the manufacturing date to which we have parts and software for it.
11:39 AM Gus: After 3 years pass, we would no longer be able to service the product.
11:41 AM Jay martinez: ok if im paying for insurance and my phone is over 3 years and something happens to it,how do they go about fixing or replacing your phone,i currently have the lg esteem and i see its discontinued, just wondering if i have a prob down the road, what will i run into?
11:42 AM Gus: You would go through the insurance company.
11:44 AM Jay martinez: right i understand that, but lg supplies the insurance company, correct? and if you dont have the phones that means they wouldnt,so would you give them phones that would be replacing the esteem,if that makes any since to you, sorry
11:45 AM Gus: We don't offer such option. LG does not sell the products or manufacture them here in the US so we have no stock to offer a replacement. If you pay for insurance you need to contact your insurance company for options. LG only offers a 1 year warranty from the purchase date and as far as how it works, it would cover manufacturing defects only and it has to be sent in for repairs.
11:45 AM Gus: Otherwise glad to help out with more options here.
11:45 AM Gus: And do apologize for the inconvenience.
