Root looking for a fresh start.. *long post*

Ok, if you are reading this...great!

I have been rooted for awhile now...I have learned and performed (more than once) how to SBF, backup/restore, install ROMs, hacked FLASH to allow HULU to run, etc. I have OC'd, Tried several self built apps (failed miserably...but i tried!), etc...Here is a loaded question...

Can I wipe my phone, leave my current ROM installed (Apex 1.3.0...1.3.1 hates my phone), wipe my SD card, and let my apps re-install themselves as they typically do? Basically, can I wipe my SD card (after I copy it to my PC for insurance), only to put back the files needed to re-install APEX, and the few *.apk files that I need?

CLIFF NOTES: My phone has been sluggish as of late. No OC, I think it "might" be the HULU hack honestly... But I want to start over fresh, minus my data that I back up via Gmail, etc....

I appreciate the input from all who offer! And I posted this here, and not in APEX's thread as I believe my sluggish phone is not related to Apex...just too much shtuff on my phone/SD card. 10.4 Gigs used...4.4 avail....

If you really want to start with a clean slate, you should format your sd card, then sbf. Then reload ApeX 1.3.1

That's just my opinion though... ;)

that is kind of what I was trying to say...but as I stated...1.3.1 HATES my phone...Hence why I stated 1.3.0. I am currently on 2.3.340 so either ApeX will work...and I used the 2.3.320 SBF. Ultimately, I am just trying to figure out WTF is causing my phone to be sluggish when backing out of my contacts, and why the phone takes 45 seconds sometimes to open/close the App drawer....

have you tried freezing apps in titanium? see if you can pin point the problem. to answer your questions. i dont see why you cant wipe data with a rom installed. i would make a backup first. (of course) also for your apps i would do a titanium backup of apps only, NO data. then restore only the ones you want. also if you have a stock backup, i would restore that, then do a factory reset.

Try just backing up your sd card and reformatting it first. A bad file/filesystem can cause the symptoms you describe. That may be what is causing your problems with Apex 1.3.1

Though I have moved on from ApeX 1.3.1 to GummyJar 2.1, and love it. It's Blurless though, if that makes a difference to you.

I have tried TiBU. funny enough, I think that "may" be a contributor to my problem. Every time I restore apps via TiBU, it seems I have more issues. I am in NO WAY stating this as fact, just a hunch. Hence the need for a "fresh" start to do it app by app, with no "restoring" being done. I am OK with losing my Angry bird scores, etc....

I hope this makes sense as I am not bashing any app or dev, just working on ruling things out as culprits.....

EDIT: Could using the setCPU widget while using "droid OC" app as a LV stock freqs cause conflicting issues???

Blurless doesn't phase me...I just want the quickest reacting phone with the best battery life...oh, and wireless tether ;) <---I have the .apk for that, so I am good :) Do you have a link for said Gummy rom?

are restoring apps/data or just apps? i think its left over data not the app its self. good luck..

I have always restored apps with app data...NEVER system data. think that might have something to do with it? Although, this last factory reset I did, I did not re-install TiBU...but the phone still freezes and needs a battery pull...so far, its been pulled twice in 3 days...
