Looking for a proper calender and Ourlook/Exchange sync. app

Hi, for some time now I'm been looking for a proper calendar app and a proper Outlook/Exchange syncing app, but haven't found one yet.

So I hope you guys can help me.

I have an plain HTC Desire phone, which I use at work. I want to be able to sync both tasks, contracts and the calendar in Outlook/Exchange. I don't care where it is take from, but it shall be done either by USB cable or by bluetooth, both connected to my workstation. I have TouchDown and it works perfect by pushing these things out from the Exchange server, but it is only done over the normal phoneline, and I want to spare the transferprice, as it can get a little pricy. So I only use TouchDown, when I'm away from my office for a longer time, say 4-5 days.

The opther app, my looking for is a calendar app, that will work with my Outlook. But I want to be able to put in private meeting in the calendar. The stock calendar app works fine with Outlook (if I those pc sync), but I can't set a meeting/appointment to be private. That problem does that anyone in our organization can se my private appointments, and I don't want to have anyone to se when I have doctor appointment etc.

I really hope some out there can help my find the right apps, as I'm getting very annoyed not to be able to do the above. Honestly I think HTC have made af very bad choose design choise, not making the above things possible, as they have always been the primarily choice of the business marked, but this will loose them a very big advantage.

Hi, I have been an iPhone user until last December and switched to the HTC Desire since. I originally used a desktop syncing software called "gSyncit" - see at http://www.daveswebsite.com/index.shtml - which gave me perfect results for exactly what you describe as your needs. Since my switch I still use the same syncing software without any issues. It has a plethora of options to sync your Outlook calendar, contacts, tasks and notes with your Google account - that is the only prerequisite, but I figure since this is part or your Desire setup you won't have a problem with this. I have always preferred Outlook to any "online version" solution for accessing my mail, calendar, etc. and have searched long and hard to find something akin to an Exchange functionality without the huge expense and/or complexity in setting it up to work. In other words I wanted something to sync my phone wirelessly / remotely, and wherever I am, with any mobile device. This led me to use Google's services, which are free, and gSyncit in conjunction, to deliver seemless sync of the afore-mentioned. I use gmail in its IMAP form, which gives me "push- mail" and gSyncit takes care of the rest and at a bargain price for a workstation licence of $20 you can't loose. I would try this route as the setup is child proof. P.S. I do not work with or have any affiliation with the software developer!

Exactly the same here. I bought GSyncIt after trying shedloads of different solutions. GSyncIt syncs Outlook with Google Calendar etc, and the Desire syncs OTA on the fly with Google.

My girlfriend has an iPhone, and we've set up a shared calendar this way. Anything coming from Outlook (eg, work appointments) goes to "my" Google calendar and she doesn't see it, and anything either of us explicitly assign to the "shared" calendar appears automagically on both handsets. She's using Pocket Informant for her Dark Side syncing, and Google Calendar is the glue that holds it all together.

I did a lot of research, trial and error, and swearing before I got all this to work, but now that it does it's seamless and a thing of beauty.

Oh - GSyncit has a free trial which is restricted to a single calendar and (I think) 20 contacts, so you can try before you buy. I used the free version for ages without issue (I wasn't syncing work contacts to a personal mobile). I bought it in the end not because I needed the extra functionality but because I felt they deserved the money.

Well, Cougar, exactly my sentiments. I corresponded with Dave (the developer) initially after purchase to resolve a minor issue. He is an extremely nice chap (guy for the Yanks) and responds very quickly. Surely, that's what we all want from a service provider!

Well, I forgot to write that, syncing over Google accounts is a no go, because of 2 things.

1) At the moment I'm the only one with an Android phone, but if the company in the future buys more Android phones, I'm don't want to walk around and setup a Google account for each colleague, just to be able to sync properly.

2) We have a company policy, that states that we can't use services as Googles for anything company critical, which mail, contacts and calendars is. We don't have any control over what Google does with the data.

So despite looking good, I can't use the program.

Ugh. I guess you're looking at something like HTC Sync then. Never used it myself (no need, due to the setup above).

Yes and no.

Have tried it in diffenret versions, and is using it now, but it just isn't good enough.
  • Can't sync tasks. (Not good)
  • Doesn't sync with etc 1 hour intervals or so, even if the phone is connected by cable. Only first time automatically, the rest manually. (Extremely annoying)
  • Have experienced issues with appointments not getting updated in both directions. (Can I even trust it or not?)
Maybe I should develop my on app... :D
