New Note 2 owner (I suppose we all are, more or less). But I switched from iPhone, after finally realizing that there were too many things I hated about iTunes as a concept and implementation. So I'm still getting my bearings.
I already tackled the USB thing in another thread. The short of it is that, contrary to ALL expectation, there doesn't seem to be an agreeable method for telling the Note 2 to bloody well sync up with the car's music player like pretty much any other USB device can do. I figured, you know, Android. Pretty open platform. Linux. Root? Somehow, this would not be a problem, and certainly it never occurred to me to suspect. Oh well. Moving on.
I'll start off with the two things I've been wanting to have better control over, just in the couple of days I've had to fiddle with this thing. Maybe somebody has heard of methods for achieving what I'm after. Maybe it's already built-in and simply well-hidden.
1) Phone contact list. Defaults to showing you every letter of the alphabet, and each letter even takes up its own little row in the list. Maybe a great idea for people with hundreds of contacts, but I've got six. It's bloat. Would like to turn it off. I could fit my entire list in one screen without having to scroll.
2) Music player volume. Would like to be able to tell the phone to set a particular default volume for music and a different default volume for other things. Reason? When I can get bluetooth working (the failures are the fault of my 2012 Civic which was designed with bad bluetooth hardware), if the phone's volume is at the midpoint, I have to turn the car stereo up to about 90% of max, which of course forces FM/etc. to be extremely loud. Likewise, if I compensate by turning the media player's volume to about 90%, this adjusts the phone's entire volume and suddenly sound effects and ringtones are ear-piercing. Can't imagine how this wasn't an immediately recognizable problem. A different solution would be if the music player had a secondary volume which was in turn dictated by the master volume. As it stands, adjusting the music player's volume adjusts everything.
3) Notification LED. Would like to be able to tell it not to notify about email, but continue notifications for the other things. My email is unfortunately mainly a spam net at this point, but it's still convenient to be able to check it real quick without jumping through browser hoops. As it is, I had to tell the phone I don't use email, because otherwise I have a constant blue blinking light telling me about all the lovely new spam.
All I can think of now. ;p
