Looking for data limiting apps?

im not sure if anything like this exists. but i sometimes use a lot of data when i am online. is there an app that can limit data? for example if i am on a site with a lot of ads and background pictures, it would do away with this stuff and just give the more basic info? Or am i stuck visiting websites like yahoo finance mobile and similar mobile adapted websites?

What is the best app for tracking 3g useage? Its really important that i dont go over. I have a 1gb cap for 55 or else i can go up to 2gb for 75.
 
3G watchdog is a good one to use, it will track your data usage and can be set to reset each month on your renewal date. You can have it disable the mobile internet connection when you reach a certain % of your allowance too.

Opera Mini is a good app for limiting data usage, as all websites are compressed + cut down on the Opera servers before being sent to your phone. It can screw up formatting a lot, however.

You can also disable flash content in your current browser, as well as pictures or other forms of content, if you want.

It's also worth bearing in mind that browsing websites isn't a major drain on data usage. Downloading apps, video, music or so on are going to use a lot more. You're better off using WiFi for those things if at all possible.

Thanks man. Ok, how do you turn off flash and pictures and stuff? Currently i have the app "Net counter". I suppose it is ok but would rather have something better.

I use wifi whenever possible. major problem being that we have no wifi at work, so i have to use data. and it seems that visiting a few websites. reading 2 or 3 articles, check email. I seem to get up to 2mb of data pretty quick and i dont want that. I want to be able to read news all day, check stock quotes, read and send emails and not have to worry. seems like it should be that way. Or maybe i am expecting too much?
 
You just need to go into the settings for your browser, where they all tend to have the option to disable flash or pictures.
 
I have a 750mb limit on my account with Orange. The only thing i dont do is visit Youtube, other than that im never off the web from 07.00 until about 15.00 (dont know how i fit in time to work ;)). FB Twitter email all my fav websites (using Dolphin HD) an absolutley cracking web browser, i mean im giving it some serious web time, and i never go over 550mb.

so what is better? dolphin or opera. i saw people saying dolphin on the opera apps comments. opera is seeming ok but will always welcome something better
 
Dolphin is good (it's the one I use), but I don't think it's especially data light; it's just a regular browser.
