I had none of these issues on LG2
Using Odin (download for Odin is included on the page), install this: [Official] Latest STOCK ROMS for SPRINT SGS3 (SPH-L710) - [24/05/2012 - L710VPALEN] - xda-developers
Then take incremental OTA updates to LG2 (It should go LF9 and then LG2). Or download these to your phone (do not put them in subfolders):
[OTA UPDATE] LG2 update ZIP file - xda-developers
Start with LF9. Put it on the phone (do not have the LG2 file on there, yet). Then turn off your phone. Turn on your phone by holding Vol UP, Home, and Power. Stock recovery will flash the LF9 update. Boot back into Android, delete the LF9 file and put the LG2 file on there. Turn off the phone and repeat the update process. You're now on LG2 again.

Yes with the International version, the LG8 baseband did give us battery issues So we got a new baseband. Obviously thats not quite the same for Sprint users though

Any reason I can't just go from LG8 back to LG2? My phone shipped with LG2.

The LG2 is an update. What the LG reverts (file wise) as an update is not the full OS, therefore what LG8 added would not all be reverted. You must use the FULL rom first

You might try a factory reset (again?) to see if that solves the disconnects and lag issue.
About battery life, the flash process wiped out batterystats.bin so now the battery is not calibrated as well as before. Given some time, it will probably return to normal.

Several users who reported battery issues after the LG8 update also reported that the problem was cured just by clearing the system cache.

I did a factory reset this morning. Since downloading files straight to phone would not work (installations aborted). I will give it a day or two to see if the battery issue is better before using Odin to flash back to the previous software.

Might want to do this too to help Android find the top and bottom voltage of the battery:
1. Charge it fully, unplug the USB cable and power the phone down. Then plug it in again until the light turns green. Unplug the USB cable and power it back on. That's the very top.
2. Let the battery discharge completely until the phone shuts itself off. That's the very bottom. But only do this once as it's hard on the battery. Once won't hurt it, but doing it regularly will.
