looking for ROM recommendations

Hello, I'm looking for a stable ROM that everything works on for my girlfriend's boost s2. I recently rooted it so she could use tether for her tablet, but the stock ROM has so much bloat on it with all her apps she's using alot of ram doing nothing! Too many background processes making the phone very slow, and making it freeze up and she has to reboot it 4-5 times daily. I dont need anything fancy just something that will work! Any suggestions? Thank you for all replies

Projext X would be my recommendation. One of the releases was even a slimmed down version. For best functionality stick to TouchWiz based ROMs. Most custom ROMs will be Sprint labeled, but will work on boost just fine, with only needing to adjust MMS server settings.

Thanks for the reply, I installed project x 3.9 last nite on my girls s2. Took me a few to get it working, I had to flash a gb08 rom kernal modem all in one twice before i could get it up and running. I think I had the wrong kernal installed at first, I got to the recovery but it wouldn't do anything, after allot of trial and error I finally got it up and running, and WOW!! I wish I could put it on my evo 3d, I really like it! If you know of any good roms for my evo that are anything like projectX be sure to let me know, and thanks again, your install thread was very helpfull with alot of good links!

Glad to see you have it up and running. Installing can be a bit tricky if you aren't use to the way you have to do things on this device, but once you are used to it, then it is not bad. GB08 is one of the prerelease leak of JB before they came out with GB27 (sprint labeled) and GC01 (boost labeled os the same ROM). Yeah bilgerryan totally rocked that ROM for us, and left us with an awesome ROM before moving on to the S3.

I luckily stumbled upon this thread when I was about to ask the same question...any suggestions on a stable rom for this phone. So I went and found a download for Project x 4.0 and downloaded it to my wife's old phone. Looks nice and smooth...just one problem specific to me...I rooted this phone and flashed the project x rom without the phone being activated. The phone was not in use...and I am assuming that this rom had the OTA updates blocked or something b/c I can't get any communication (for lack of the correct term) with the network. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Do a scrtn reset ##72786# that makes the phone do its activation process again. You can always flash back to stock if you need.

Thanks CG for the quick response. I did the ##72786# and it went
to a screen that just had SCRTN at the top with no options and the menu button or the back button didn't respond. By my accounts it looks like there are some things that could be changed under the ##3282# that need values assigned to them or turned on (I'm not talking about the proxies 0.0.0.0). I'm just thinking that some roms have ota updates blocked and maybe as a result preventing the activation process?

Under jb it would normally ask you to enter hour msl to continue with the reset. I suggest hou flash back to stock. There is a one click install of tge stock roms. If you don't know your MSL code, you can do an install of an early ics buils like FH29 which doesn't require it. Once there do the scrtn reset and let it activate, and then go back to the rom you want.

Thanks CG. I know my msl but I may try flashing back to stock despite my OCD causing me to want to continue to dig to find the key in this ROM. LOL! It can really be a curse sometimes.

Hey just incase my patience runs out before my OCD does...do ya have a link to that? I looked under the [Root One Stop Shop]Roms, Kernels ect.. and didn't see it. I saw on page 7 your link helping out another guy http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=189 but I think the link was broken.

I previously had a version of Cyanogenmod on my boost galaxy s2 and loved it but the phone glitched yesterday and refused to boot bast the "triangle" screen. I booted into recovery and it refused to load the rom. So now I have to reinstall a rom that functions again, but it has been so long since I ran a custom rom I dont know what works and what doesnt. I originally rooted and customized to get rid of the bloat but most roms have something wrong now. The project x I flashed to the wifes phone and she hated it since her audio was horrible, the data wouldnt enable and she couldnt use it as a hotspot anymore because it wouldnt enable. With our area we ONLY have 3g so some of the errors that kill 3g make my phone useless until a new flash.

Some swear that I should find the newest CM10.2 and use it, while others say Touchwiz ONLY. For touchwiz is there one that doesnt make me re-learn where everything is?
Because I had to use my phone I installed project x3.9 as a temporary measure, I can use the phone and send mms but like my wife the data does not work even when enabled in settings as well as hotspot. I can use it as is until I get a better suggestion from you pros.

What baseband are you on? you can not be on an ICS baseband (aka modem) and be on a touchwiz JB ROM. Your data will not work. TW JB requires a modem for JB (ie GB27 modem while on a GB27 based ROM). AOSP ROM's all use ICS modems.

I flashed both types of modems the ICS and TW versions suggested in the main all things root area, neither would allow data but one would allow mms... When on the last CM I had it was d10.10 Fg31 and it worked most times. When on projectX I had el26 first then el29 I believe. Still had massive issues. The hotspot feature would initialize and then never actually work. Went and tried Pacman and had MMS problems had to change settings and it works now.
I just want something that runs well without the fluff but as I said it has been awhile since I used anything beside Cyanogenmod. I cant for the life of me remember which version maybe 10beta? I understand 11 is out on this phone. Should I try the 10-s or go to 11?

ok well if your MMS was working then data was working. MMS uses the data connection. Project x would use GB27 modem, and I think I would go with 3.9 or earlier on that ROM. CM11 is an AOSP ROM, so it if you want WiMAX4g to work then avoid AOSP ROMs.

I myself preferred a modified stock TW ROM (GB27) everything just worked as it should, and I customized the interface to my liking.
