Looking for "Turned On" Application

Is there an APP that will somehow tell you IF your HTC Incredible is ON or not.

I am so tired of not being able to tell if the phone is ON without actually turning it ON accidentally, then waiting for it to boot, and then turning it OFF.

Is there any app that might flash the light every 30 seconds or something?

This is a real design flaw, that you can not tell if the phone is on or off.

Thanks,

JP

I despise this way of thinking.

The reason there is no indicator of ON is because it would require more battery usage. The first thing people would complain about is an annoying light that flashes every 30 seconds! The reality is that most people don't have a reason to turn their phone off enough to wonder if the phone is on/off.

Instead of relying on app, how about other nonelectronic indicators? Take the phone out of the case. Take the battery cover off. TAKE THE BATTERY OUT?? Use a Post-it note?? As you can see, you really don't need to jump to the "incompetent engineers" way of thinking before coming up with simpler solutions.

One work-around might be to be able to wake the phone using a different button, e.g. pressing the volume key. That way if it doesn't respond you know it is off without risking turning it on while checking.

There are some apps that can do this. WidgetLocker has an "easy wake mode" setting that lets you wake the phone with any hardware button, and I'm sure there are others can do something like this. The drawback is that you might find it wakes too easily, but may be worth a try.

There will be more options if you root the phone, e.g. my ROM allows me to wake using one specific (hard to accidentally press) button, but you might think that's excessive for this problem.

Of course there's probably a way of doing exactly what you want with a little work.

I quickly knocked up a Tasker profile that would start a notification with the LED flashing once/second when the screen goes off (once/second was the slowest I could do). Catch was that I had to cancel the notification when I unlocked the phone to make it stop, so not perfect, but maybe someone who's better with Tasker than I am could work out how to cancel it on unlock.

YES!..If touching the volume up/down would cause the screen to light....PERFECT!. That is exactly the kind of solution I was seeking. Now, if someone can make an APP to do that...it would be great!

Thanks for ALL the input.
