So me and my girlfriend are eligible for a early upgrade. I have an htc droid incredible and she has a Droid X. Is the droid 3 an upgrade from these phones? I know it has the front camera, but that's not whats going to make me buy these. I mainly want to get these phones because they are buy one get one. But are they buy one get one cause they aren't good phones? If im upgrading, i want the phones to be faster and better than the ones i already have. I originally had the Droid, but didnt like it cause it was slow, but im sure they've upgraded a lot since then. So should i get them or wait for a better phone?

It's tough to answer that question for you. I got it because it meets all my needs. I want the keyboard. The front camera isn't worth much yet because the apps that take advantage of it haven't updated to provide for this phone. For me it's the best phone on the market but the keyboard is "key" for me.

Its faster (dual core), the UI is improved, physical keyboard is improved, HDMI out, newest version of android (i dont count 2.3.5), it has quad bands so it can be used around the world, 1080 video recording. Thats as much as I have found so far.

IMO, the D3 is a definite upgrade from the D1, Dinc, and DX. If you are only looking at 3G phones, the top two handsets you should consider is the D3 and Dinc2. For what you are paying for, these two handsets are great buys for what they give you. $100 for a D3 (BOGO) is an awesome price. The Dinc2 is even cheaper if you shop around. Though they are priced well, it doesn't mean that these phone aren't good. I think they are priced this way because they want new customers to sign up so they can be locked to Verizon's new tiered pricing.

Both phones are very capable as stock devices if you prefer not to root and install a custom rom. So either phone are good choices to upgrade to especially for the price.

I had the original Droid and my 2 year contract was up. It was between the Droid Incredible 2 or the Droid 3 for me cause I wanted a global phone. Then I saw that the Droid 3 has dual core, 1080p, HDMI, higher rez screen, Gingerbread, and keyboard to boot? Spec wise.... why would I hesitate?
I'm cool with my choice, no matter what comes out in the next few months.

Thanks for the tip guys, I was just about to get these phones, but the lady said the 'buy one get one' option was not available to me since it was 9 months away from my contract ending. supposedly they will only let me upgrade early if i buy each phone separately. Thanks again.

I personally bought a D3 and returned in 4 days later because i hated the blur UI so much, I also noticed browsing the web wasn't that much faster then my OG Droid.....it was definitely smoother navigating the webpages once they loaded but actually loading them wasn't much faster. so i determined the next phone im going to get has to have 4G.....just my opinion though.

Blur within Gingerbread is way better than it was with Froyo IMO. As for the speed of the net. It's 3G, for me it's fast enough. I had a Thunderbolt, but when I was in 4G areas the battery life was awful. I'm skipping 4G until the technology matures and I can actually use the phone for an entire day.

I had an Evo 3D on Sprint and never used the "4G" save for running SpeedTest to show off. It's a battery drainer and took a long time to find a WiMax signal. Hopefully Verizon LTE is better than that, but still. If it uses more battery than 3G I have no use for it. 3G is fast enough to read the news and load Google Maps.

As far as I'm concerned the data connection of my D3 is just as fast as the "4G" Evo 3D.

Got angry @ Sprint and switched to Verizon. Love my D3.

3g is plenty fast to watch youtube videos, even stream netflix. steaming audio too.

imho 4g is an ''ooohh ahhh'' selling point at the moment.

Could be. As soon as I get the D3 I plan to do some side by side TMo 4G vs Verizon 3G speed tests to see if I am getting what I pay for.

Tmobile will be faster (atleast speedtest is concerned) as i've had both. The 3g for verizon feels fast enough. To compare even you would have to compare 3g to 3g.

since I do not stream movies and such I do not care for 4g, and if I am around the house I have wifi...physical Keyboard is what I like...16gig on board plus my 32gig sd...not running out of space for awhile...
