Help "Lookout" app work well on droid inc?

Does anyone have positive feed back on the app Lookout? Does it play well with our phones or does it kill the battery??

i thought it could turn that on VIA sms... is there any app like this that has that. i dont care if i have to pay for it. just want to know my baby is safe if someone desided to take it you know?
 
Lookout works well. I actually tried the locate feature yesterday with GPS off and it does narrow it down pretty good, although it can't give you an exact.

Everything else works great, too!

ETA: I use it for backups as well and have them scheduled for the middle of the night when my phone is charging. Otherwise, it will kill your battery and slow down your phone.
 
I have used it for a month or so with no problems and have not noticed any paticular problem with battery drain (other than GPS being on). The locate function is in beta for DInc users but it worked fine for me. However, I did not see where it could turn on GPS via anything.
 
I just installed Where's My Droid today. You have 2 SMS keywords, one for GPS and one for Ringer. Works pretty good although it did put my location about a block away. Might of been the weather.

If you leave GPS enabled it doesn't drain the battery. Only when it is being used it drains (Google Maps, Compass, etc.). Where's My Droid only uses it when it receives the SMS.
 
I leave GPS off and Lookout turns it on and tracks just fine via the web interface. No need to leave GPS on. The siren feature works pretty well too.
 
Ok, another question:

"Where's my Droid" claims that recent update to Android prevents apps from enabling GPS remotely... can someone confirm that you can still have lookout turn GPS on remotely to track the phone? (if you leave the GPS off)

I saw the same thing so I went with Lookout in conjunction with Tasker. I set up Tasker so that I can send an sms with my special passcode to turn GPS and WiFi on. Then I log onto mylookout and find the phone. I also set up Tasker to have a separate sms passcode to turn off GPS and WiFi(in case I can't find it right away and don't want to kill battery -- not sure this is needed but oh well).

Now, there is a way to just use Tasker to do all of this -- set it up to send you an sms with the coordinates, battery level, etc., but it seems unreliable to me when I've tested it. Lookout's free, and I already have tasker so it's no big deal for me to do two steps instead of one. I just find it more reliable.
 
I am using a Droid 2 and Lookout works just fine. I have deactivated the anti-virus, but use backup for contacts and pictures. Also use the lost function but have read it is not very accurate in actual distance.

It's not accurate if you don't have your GPS enabled. I leave my GPS enabled all the time. If you leave it enabled it won't be active all the time, it just means your apps can use it.

It has no effects on your battery life unless your apps activate it for whatever reason. I don't allow any apps to use the GPS in the background so there's no reason for me to leave GPS disabled other than possible privacy concerns. They can always tri-angulate your position anyway though.
