Once someone like Birdman finds a way to root it yes you can. They will patch the exploit Birdman found earlier so he will have to find a new workaround. to obtain root access once 2.2 comes out...

I've been down about the DX bootloader ever being cracked because I figured with the Droid 2 and Motorola's unnamed/unannounced 2ghz phone coming out, developers would move onto those quickly.

Now I've realized though that if the Droid 2 has the same DRM...hopefully when they crack one they crack them all.
