Root Looks like Future Razr ROMs and Bionic ROMS are interchangeable

So seeing that the Razr has the same amount of RAM and processor as the Bionic (with the Razr being overclocked slightly) it appears that ROMS for both devices should work with each other. I mean, there's probably some minor changes, but an experienced dev could potentially port it to either device.

Good news, right? Maybe? :o I hope so. :p

What do you think?

If that's the case, then the root exploit that worked on the BIONIC should also work on the RAZR

Even if they are not 100% interchangeable, it should be a simple port from one to the other for the developers.

I have a feeling that neither phone will have the bootloader unlocked (because of Verizon) so we should see similar development on both.

It's really looking like a lot of Moto ROMs are fairly easy to port. I was just reading about Liberty ROM and that Fab helped to port it over from the OG DX! Pretty cool stuff.

I'm wondering if the Bionic is just a testbed for the RAZR. Same internals except the processor is overclocked. We might all just be a bunch of beta testers so when they drop the RAZR it has zero issues.

Thats my thought as well. I think the D3 was the the bionics testbed software wise. I mean the D3 is the bionic minus the extra RAM for webtop and LTE. I wonder what the razr is testing for Moto. :p

I don't know about the whole "razr having zero issues" comment. Have you had any experience with the original razr? I'm hoping the new one doesn't bomb on battery life (physical life, not just drain) and break nearly as much as those revolutionary thin flip phones did ;)

The great news is that if this is true, working on the RAZR and the bionic should be pretty simple so we all benefit equally!

Considering that it does not have a removable battery, and that the screen is AMOLED instead of our current Pentile qHD, I cannot see how it is a testbed for it.

Again, if you look at it from one perspective, any phone is a testbed for a future phone. But with the changes between the RAZR and the BIONIC, I don't see that it is a test bed of any sort at all.

That is true.

I actually was only looking at it at the software only perspective and the Bionic and Razr look to be a mirror image of each other. You can even say the same about the D3. The only changes that they made with the razr is the screen and design which I don't think will affect the software.

I don't think it's a bad thing that they have the Bionic and Razr as test beds to themselves. I think it's a smart strategy especially if Moto wants to continuously support these two phones in a more efficient manner.

I mentioned this before...

Like with the Atrix and Photon some folks found a way to unlock it based on phones in other countries.

IF the RAZR can be unlocked in another country I gotta believe it will be for the US too.

The Atrix and Photon were unlocked because someone found an upgrade on a Motorola server that had an unlocked bootloader. I don't remember but I'm pretty sure a Motorola developer pointed out to someone where to look. Just because the same phone on a different network is unlocked doesn't mean you will be able to unlock the one on Verizon. It all comes down to the locked bootloader. You can't apply an update that will change the bootloader that isn't an official release for said device, an update from a different carrier wont be compatible with a Verizon RAZR.

Hello. Im gonna to flash the VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-167_DHD-14_M3-8_CFC_1FF_01.xml

to my droid bionic using RSD Lite 5.6 - xda-developers

I will be flashing from. VRZ_XT875_5.9.902.XT875.Verizon.en.US_CFC_01.xml

This could work so wish me luck. And remember always flash with a battery level of a 100%. If this works I will post more about the good and the bad. Ttyl.

Be careful Hoffa. My first post was entirely an assumption. I'm sure that some razr roms can be tweaked to make it work on the bionic but it'll require the know how to make it work.

This is interesting. So, if we were to take a native RAZR ROM (with that settings profile thingy that the RAZR has) and flash it on to the BIONIC, will it make the Settngs profile thingy start actually working on the BIONIC?

Hmmm - Now *I* want to try to flash the ICS leak for the RAZR onto the BIONIC lol...

Oh, and XMR - I *JUST* now noticed that your OP has it backwards - the RAZR is the OC'd device, the the BIONIC lol....
