Looks Like Samsung Will Deliver

Uh i9000 is the Eurpoean version of it. It was always known they would get it then. That is not an indication the US market will get it then.
 
I think it's a starting point, how much different can the US version be? At least they have a date now and we should start to see movement towards our own update.
 
I'm not expecting to see Froyo 2.2 from AT&T for quite some time. As a long time customer, my experience reveals that AT&T is rather ho-hum about smartphone OS updates in general regardless of the platform. If Froyo is offered specifically for the Captivate via another source that will most probably be our best bet. I'd love to be wrong. Anything is possible, but past history does not bode well.
 
On blackberry the 5.0 update was out for what? A year before AT&T released it for the BOLD 9000? And when it was released it was one with memory leaks and ringer problems, while the previous build was fine. AT&T doesn't hold back os releases for quality reasons, they are just lazy and slow when it comes to moving forward. You want froyo, once it is available on xda, upgrade, do not wait for AT&T.

Not to mention AT&T will no doubt cripple features that encrouch on their "add on" services (nav, tether, wifi hotspot, etc) and bloat it with their worthless bloatware.. that takes time you know.

Yup, best bet is probably going to be a custom made version of it from a 3rd party. Unfortunatly those are often full of small glitches and stuff.

Will AT&T ever learn?
 
No doubt it will take AT&T a while to release it officially, but once the i9000 Froyo gets released you can bet plenty of US based developers at XDA will port it over to the other versions of the Galaxy S.

It may not be simple getting it to run before it goes official, but I have no doubt someone will do it.
 
That's very depressing for us AT&T subscribers.

When I was on the Blackberry Bold 9000 for 2 years, I had to get firmware updates from other providers and leaks. Never from AT&T because they never had any.

The firmware updates were quite simple to do for the Blackberry, just had to remove a certain file and it would work. This will seem a lot more complicated for the Captivate
 
The article is not even quoting Samsung as a source, but going 3rd person, plus the Article itself even states it is a "RUMOR":

"A new "RUMOR" regarding the upgrade to Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S…"

Not to mention as people have already pointed out, this is for the folks across the pond, not to mention it is not even the same phone. Additionally, I think many already knew this would happen in Europe first, but the date has always been questionable.
