Help losing connection

So several times over the forty or so days i have had the captivate i will pick it up, see three or so bars and the 3g symbol, start the browser...no data...try to dial out...dialing, dialing,dialing, bam....call ended. No pop ups about out of service or anything of that nature. Also, several times i've had im messages show up minutes to almost an hour late.
It seems to me like maybe once it loses signal it does not connect back correctly because once i reboot the phone everything is fine.
Is this normal for the captivate? I did not have this problem with the impression i had before.

I have recently had the same no signal issue pop up on mine. I'll lose signal at some point, and continue about my life only to hear from friends that they haven't been able to reach me. Check the phone and no bars, just a circle with a line through it. Everyone around me has plenty of bars. When restarted, it works fine. This is my 3rd replacement phone, all of them new as I keep having problems inside the thirty day replacement window, and I guess it's time for replacement number 4.

I think the both of you are in weak signal areas. Either you're at the very edge of the cell towers' coverage OR your cell towers are faulty.

To rule out faulty cell tower, follow these steps to set your phones to EDGE signal. If you no longer have dropped calls or late messages, then that means that you are in a weak 3G coverage area. If you *continue* to get dropped calls and late messages, then you are either really far from the towers OR your towers are faulty.
