Root Losing screen lock & weird dev/block message

Here's my phones story... Had my phone since April '11. When it was possible, I rooted my phone to remove bloatware, & eventually had Basix 1.0 installed-but that fudged up somehow because apparently my sd card became misaligned(or something), I then tried to recover Basix but wasn't savvy enough, so I said screw it & used Odin to put it back to stock, which is apparently where it sits now... I say apparently. More on this *****Later...

Problem #1
About every 3-4 weeks I lose screen lock & the only way I know to get it back is to do a total reset(power button + R button & then reset phone option OR within the phones standard OS options) & it usually works without issue. For a while.

Problem #2
The other day it lost the screen lock, so I as I was going through the process mentioned above & it flashed something very similar(BUT NOT EXACTLY) to this:

E:Can't mount /dev/block/st112 (Invalid argument)

NOTE: I got the above description from this thread HERE as a reference only. Sorry I didn't write it down. But if it happens again I will & re-bump this thread with what it says.

Moving on.. EXCEPT that it said k0nane's name in there somewhere. I was like wtf!? Ok. thinking that perhaps, just perhaps, something was left over from the earlier root, reboot, re-Odin, whatever. So again, I tried resetting, successfully, & decided to look around the forums for infos/help but found nada. Even went to the IRC thing & 'racoon' recommended posting a thread about my particular issues.

It's *****Later..
Whilst in the above linked thread I also noticed a reply by k0nane mentioning that "The problem is that the TARs we have right now are imperfect"...

So, could that too be a part of the problem(s) as well or has that been fixed?

The thing is that I'm getting really tired of this happening & having to update the apps & redownloading whatever other apps I like to use. I've even gone so far as to not download a thing but it still ends up happening. If gmail didn't save all my contacts I'd say screw it & break the thing into pieces. But $400 is a lot to just 'give-up' on. So, that's what I've been dealing with since approximately April. FML. HELP?

From a dump of the mount points on the indulge
Code:
/dev/block/stl12 /cache rfs rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,vfat,llw,check=no,gid/uid/rwx,iocharset=utf8 0 0

So, if that is the error you were getting, that's saying it couldn't mount your cache correctly...
Did you ever mess with the partitions, or accidently check the partition box in Odin and had to have some irc help to fix it? I was thinking that could be it.
Otherwise, (actually in any case) try Reaper man's suggestion. It might have been that you've been working on a bad flash for all that time...

do you have the 910 and if so did you use option 2 for flashing?

I do have the 910(metro) phone.
But idk what 'option 2 for flashing' means. Are you talking about the box where it says "F. Reset Time"? If so, all I can say is that I tried to make it look pretty much exactly like the picture found HERE, except that A)the pit files location would be different because it is coming from my machine & not the person that posted the pic, as well as B)it may have been a different COM port. But these are both for obvious reasons.

EDIT: I see what you mean now by Option 2.. you're speaking about the file within the Odin thread, yes? If so, then no. Have only used Option 1.

I've never messed with partitioning because the ODIN thread specifically mentions not to do so(so also never had help from IRC to fix it), nor had someone from IRC help at all until the other day explaining my plight, which was right before I made this thread upon suggestion.

Also, to reiterate, it said something very similar(BUT NOT EXACTLY) to that message in red.. again, if I see it I will write it down this time so we can finally figure out what's going on with this thing.

Because as I said I'm just really tired of this thing losing screen lock every month-ish &/or randomly resetting itself & losing the downloaded apps, which I just realized I didn't mention the first time.. The reason I reset it this particular time is not only were the very few apps I downloaded missing(pandora, youtube update, facebook update) but also the Android Marketplace app itself was gone too,,, that really frazzled my brain! lol

Thanks for any & all help on this. :D

Option 2 refers to the 2nd downloadable package for the R910 in the ODIN thread.
And I know you said it wasn't the exact same, I was just making a suggestion.

As for the F. Reset button-DON'T TOUCH IT!
Yeah, the different options in odin are not to mess around with. You can really mess things up.
While F.Reset only deprograms your phone from metro's towers, which in theory can be fixed with *228, I don't recommend experimenting with it, or any thing else in odin without proper backup plans...

Sorry if I offended with the bold. Wasn't yelling. Rather I was trying to restate so as to be clear. I really do appreciate all the insight, advice, instruction, & wisdom provided here by such gurus. I am merely wading through the darkness with the light you, and others, provide. Will try option 2 sometime in the future. Again, thank you. :)

Sure thing, bro. I didn't see it as yelling, don't worry. It's okay to emphasize to drive your point home. ;)
As far as me being a guru, I'm honored, but I am far from deserving that title :D
