Help Losing SD Card notifications

Holydoc

Well-Known Member
After charging overnight, I have noticed that all my personalized notifications and ringtones are no longer accessible. In order to make them accessible, I am forced to unmount and mount back my SD card.

My apps that have been moved to the SD card are accessible whether the notifications or ringtones are not. Is anyone else having this same problem? It started after I upgraded to GB.

Try turning off fastboot in the application settings.

I do not understand how fastboot is the culprit if I never turn the phone off.

I personally don't either, but Verizon recommends turning it off if you have problems with apps and users on this forum have found success when turning it off.
Are your ringtones/notifications in a specific folder? I know some people have had better luck with putting their ringtones in a folder named ringtones.

Ringtones are in a folder called ringtones. Notifications are in a folder called Media\notifications. I did discover when this happens, I also cannot see my music on the SD card either. Seems the SD card is being dismounted by some system or app.

UPDATE: This morning all of my ringtones and notifications were still assigned. The only thing I did differently was that I did not turn on my bedside clock app, One Nightstand. We shall see tomorrow if that was the cause. I will turn it on tonight. Just turning it on by itself for a few seconds does NOT cause me to lose notifications.

Very confusing.

Update to problem: Phone was charged overnight with several apps running. Those apps included "Timeriffic", "Calendar Snooze", and "Good Morning". I did not run "One Nightstand" as a clock. Results were that the SD Card Notifications and Ringtones were lost again. I had to recover them using the Dismount/Mount SD card option. I will continue to try to narrow down the cause of this problem and report it here.

Ugh. This problem is baffling. Here are some more steps I tried:
1) Ran Timeriffic by itself - no problems
2) Ran Good Morning by itself - no problems
3) Ran Calendar Snooze by itself - no problems
4) Turned off Fast Reboot and rebooted phone (sdrawkcab25 suggestion) - no problems
5) Plugged it into the charger and checked it - no problems

Got up this morning and took the phone off the charger, notifications and ringtones were lost again. It is awfully hard to solve a problem that you cannot readily recreate!

Here may be another clue. After I got the OTA update, I connected my phone to my computer and loaded more ringtones to the SD Card. Is it possible that I caused a problem then? I also used "Astro file Manager" to move a *.mp3 from the email download directory to the ringtone directory on the SD Card. Could that have caused any problems? I am running Windows 7.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update: Just pulled battery, removed SD Card and reinserted

You might want to try reformatting the sd card (fat32 preferably).

Ok, I know everyone is sitting on the edge of their seat wondering what was the result of the battery and SD Card pull. Well... notifications and ringtones were fine this morning. I am not saying for sure that it is fixed yet (going to give it a few days), but this was the first time that the phone lasted a whole day without losing the notifications and ringtones.

So, if I was asked right now, I would recommend the following.

If after the GB update, you are having troubles with the phone seeing items on the SD Card, the first thing I would try would be to:
1) Dismount the SD Card
2) Shut down the phone
3) Pull out the battery
4) Pull out the SD Card
5) Replace all and reboot
6) Hopefully all will be fixed!

Good luck and hopefully this will help someone.

I've encountered a similar problem after upgrading to GB ...

I had a personalized ringtone which I have in a folder named "ringtones" on the internal storage of the Dinc. After the update the phone refuses to see this mp3. I've tried copying the "ringtones" folder to the SD card, unmounting and remounting the SD card, battery pull, etc. ... all with no luck. How can I get the Dinc to "see" that file as a ringtone and give me the option of choosing it?

This is a pretty old forum, but hopefully someone has an answer for me.
