Help losing signal and data

Ok so i just got the charge on Thursday and it was working great. But this weekend the phone has been crappy. I live close to west Virginia and im always in between 1x and 3g well now im losing data but have full signal, or I'll have data but no cell serve. I'll have the circle with a slash through it. I have cdma set to automatic bc im no where close to 4g. Anyone have ideas? Now it doesn't matter if i have lte on bc it does the same thing

Yep, a lot of us are experiencing this issue. Supposedly Samsung and Verizon know about this issue and they say that they are working to fix it.

People who have loaded the leaked builds of the new 2.3.4 Gingerbread release have said that it includes firmware fixes for both the 3G CDMA and 4G LTE radios and has shown promise in fixing this issue.

It isn't out for the general public yet. A lot of us here are waiting for it to be released since along with these fixes comes a lot of new functionality and apparently it makes the phone faster and more responsive.

I live in a 4G area and my phone keeps switching between 3G, 4G and 1x. I must add that while my area is now 4G, where my home is located is still 3G - guess we are a little on the edge of the 4G area. My daughters motorola droid 2 global is now getting much better service at all times than my charge.

I hope this is fixed soon. I really love my phone, but this is getting ridiculous.

I agree. I don't think you'll find anyone in these forums that doesn't agree that this needs to be fixed and quickly I may add.

Yes, i've been literally fighting with Verizon on this issue for 2 months and their resolution (morons) was to send me a refurb phone. After I told them to sod off, I've been down that road before and it has always ended badly, I decided to go against every cell in my body and flash to gummycharged EE4 1.9.1 ROM. So far, its only been 2 days, my data and signal have been GREAT. Actually being able to make a phone call with the 4G turned on, and hearing the people I'm talking with... Amazing. Now, it's only been 2 days, so I'm skeptical as to whether it will remain. But honestly, anything is better than stock at this point. If the phone turned into a physical brick it would actually be more useful than what they gave me.
I am of the opinion, at this point, that the software/ROM is the actual problem and not the radio. I'll update later, but again, so far so good.
And if Verizon reads this, you need to get your heads out and see some sunshine, replacing a brand new phone with someone else's refurb to fix a problem that will still be present is NOT a proper fix.

So rooting and running the gingerbread release could solve my issue. Might be worth doing. I was planning on rooting later this month but if it will fix my problem then why wait. Does the gingerbread leak have touchwiz?

Yes, executor485... please keep us updated. I'd like to know if this really makes it more stable when it comes to data.

What's the process of loading GummyCharged? Did you go with the Froyo or Gingerbread version of GummyCharged?

Also, can you post screen shots of the About Phone screen? I'd like to know what the Firmware Version, Baseband Version, and Kernel Version are.

I'm running Froyo with voodoo lagfix enabled.

Thus far, I've been very impressed with the data connection and phone. This morning I woke up and it was at 1x for some reason, but this is a VAST improvement from waking up and it actually having NO data connection until I restart the phone. Toggling 4G/3G a few times put the signal back up to 4G though.
I've also been making a few phone calls with my 4G signal on (something if I used to do it would cut out 5 out of 6 words) and it's been clear as day.

I was honestly against rooting entirely, but figured I couldnt do anything worse to the phone that what Verizon has done to me. MUCH happier now that I have. I'll keep updating on my experiences though to see if anything changes.

Missed this part.
I did a LOT of research before I went this route, but what I did. Downloaded the gummycharge kit. This included all the drivers I needed and Odin (the flashing software).
Then I downloaded the new gummycharged 1.9.1 that does the voodoo lagfix and everything all in one shot.
Boot the phone into flash mode
Tell Odin which md5 file I wanted loaded (the gummycharged 1.9.1)
Wait for it to finish flashing
Enjoy my new phone :)

This is a VERY simplified version of what I did. Before going crazy I'd do some research and find out exactly what you want though. I was extremely nervous about breaking my phone, but it turned out great so far. There are only a few things I dont like/want to change. The email client isnt as smooth or functional for me as the stock one (and trying to install that one has brought me a headache) and there was something else I cant remember off hand that I didnt like... The alarm clock, but I uploaded a different one... Hrmm... It was very minor though. Enough to be annoying to me personally, but not enough to give up the ability to use my phone. lol

Oh... I was hoping that loading GummyCharged would be a slam-dunk for fixing the data dropping issue. I was really hoping that that would be the case.

In comparison, I'd fully vote for slam dunk. When I go from the elevator to my cube I normally lose data completely, it has a lot of issues with 3/4G switching and whatnot, but I havent experienced that yet. At least 1x is actually a data connection as opposed to NO data, or saying it does but not really having it.

I was hoping for a 100%, fully fixed bug fix. As in, no rebooting, no toggling Airplane Mode, no nothing to get data back. That's what I'm talking about. :( Just as seamless as it should be.

While I agree that it should be 100% seemelss and have 0 issues... I was having more issues with the stock setup than I have ever had on a phone, so the increase in stability is increased to the point where I find this phone to be acceptable and I'm MUCH happier.

I'll be checking around to see IF verizon actually goes GB or ICS route though, and IF they do, how much better it is or isnt.

I'm going to be getting into contact with some Droid review sites such as DroidDog and PhoneDog and telling them about this issue that we all seem to be having with this phone when it comes to dropped data. Hopefully some exposure to the issue on some big name sites will make Verizon sit up and take notice about this issue and fix it quicker. Nothing like some bad PR to make a company pull its head out of its collective behind.

That would be good :) Hopefully it will work because being civil with Verizon has only accomplished me wanting to strangle every moron I speak with.

I will say my phone / Data sucks the last month! Absolutely terrible as far as losing connectivity on a daily basis. Vzw is the worst at addressing problems and getting fixes outed. Couple that with Samsung, and we most likely won't ever see a fix for this issue.

An unfortunate truth. I've determined I need to stop buying phones. Any phone I buy has 0 support from Verizon or the Manufacturer. It's probably my fault this phone sucks, lol

I've been sending this email out to a few of the news sites as well:

I am hoping that good news sites like this can help pull some attention to an issue that has yet to be addressed by Verizon.
The simple fact is that many Droid Charge users experience dropped data connections and phone signal extremely frequently and randomly. Regardless of signal strength or area, the data connection will appear but unacessable and the same happens with phone signal as well.
Attempting to work with Verizon on resolving this issues (calling in and opening trouble tickets once a week) has been a waste of time as they are unable to determine a problem, but finally their resolution has been to reset the phone and/or toggle airplane mode until signal is regained.
While this has been extremely inconvinient and troublesome for myself, from research on forums, news sites, Verizon's own personal feedback site, etc; this problem is very widespread and Verizon has not indicated any intentions to address the issue. At the moment, Verizon's "solution" is to take your brand new phone and replace it with a refurbished phone (same model) which has the same issue (as many have had replacement phones in the first 14 days and the issue still remains).
Many of us with this issue are hoping that by bringing these issues to light on big news sites, that Verizon would be more inclined to resolve the issue to save face on a new device.
Thank you for your time.

It's a very short and to the point email, but hopefully it will help pull some attention to the issue at hand.

DroidDog and PhoneDog don't seem to be responding to my email and tweets. I've sent an email to one of those troubleshooting teams you find on most local television news stations and the person has already replied back to me.

Seeing this guy on TV and the work he's done in the past for people who have felt like they have nowhere to turn for answers, I have a feeling that Verizon is going to have a fire lit under their... collective rear ends.
