Losing signal/reception

So my signal strength has gone all crazy lately.

Places I had great service it is poor. Places I had good service I have none. I lose signal constantly. While traveling this weekend, the phone went in and out of digital roaming constantly, and was killing the battery like I've never seen.

All this in places I've never had a problem, and my wife's dumb phone had normal service- with the same carrier.

Idears?

This has been happening to me for about 2 weeks now, It depends a lot on your Country, Provider and Other people using the Towers closest to you.

What Country are you from and what provider? :)

Yup, what Grommett said. I have some fairly severe issues with my provider (Orange) in the centre of London. I tend to expect to have consistantly good signal - data and voice - in the Capital but it just isn't the case. I often lose signal around one of the major railway terminii and I couldn't work ouit why. But then a friend pointed out that it could well be because of the number of people all hitting the network at the same time (folks tend to call from railway stations to let others know of their travel plans) taking up excessive cell-space. Now, whether or not this would register on your phone as "no signal" or just mean that a call won't connect when you try is another matter...

Alternatively, have you got the latest / decent radio for your phone? My signal issues improved a fair bit when I flashed an alternative radio (you need to be rooted for this though).

Got to Settings - About Phone, and tell us what your baseband is.

Thanks. Good info there. I did the R&R sim card trick, seemed to have an immediate improvement, but still a bit funky

I take that back. It's still effed as bad as ever; I had no signal half the way home last night (same drive everyday, never had an issue).

Off to the store I go *grrrrr*
