Help Loss of 4G

RG334

Lurker
I recently (Feb of 2013) I received the OTA update for vs 4.0.4. After that I found that my Bionic no longer gets 4G. I searched the settings and could not find a way to change this. I took it to my Verizon dealer where they cleared all of the potential apps that could cause a problem, did a factory reset, changed my SIMS card, called their Tech Support and in the end, they had no explanation or fix. I just (today) processed the OTA update to 4.1.4 and the problem still is there. I live in Metro Detroit, MI where until these updates, I received 4G in most every area. Any thoughts or suggestions? Please help.

It sounds as if you have done the right troubleshooting. Most users feel the 4.1.2 update improved 4G reception. It seems like a hardware issue if you cannot ever connect to 4G. I assume your Mobile network is Data enabled and that your preferred network type is LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA?

If you are un-root-ed and did a Factory Data Reset and cannot receive 4G when another device right beside you is receiving 4G ...

I would go back to the store and ask them if they had 4G at their location. When they say yes ... hand them your Bionic and say ... please connect using 4G. If they can't I would request a replacement Bionic.

about less then a month after the update i lost all data.. no 3g 4g.. no icon next to cell bars.. put my sim in another bionic.. no go.. bad sim?

I have been having the same issue. I also lose 3G connection sometimes and have to go to airplane mode and switch back out of it in order to re-establish my data connection.
Its somewhat annoying, but I already have my galaxy s4 pre-ordered, so its not bothering me much.
If I was going to be stuck with this phone much longer, we would have an issue.

Right after the install I turned off my phone, and turned it back on.
I didnt do anything major. I dont care to whipe everything out and start installing crap all over again being that Ill have my new phone in just a little over 2 weeks.

Which phone and why? Sorry for going off track :)

Galaxy S4.
I got my Bionic on launch day (Had an HTC Eris. Couldnt wait to get rid of that thing!). Been having poor battery life for months. Called for a replacement since the stores dont sell them anymore, even the 800 number only had 1 on hand and it was a used one. Only 10 dollars so I gave it a shot, just as poor as the original though.
Now for about a month, the phone became laggy as hell.

Ive always loved the look of the galaxy's and their screens. But upgrade time never matched up with their release. Usually when I was due for an upgrade those phones were a bit older and something with better specs was out.

When I got this phone, the thinner Moto Razr came out like two weeks later. Just enough time had passed where I couldnt return my phone and trade it in for the razr without paying full price. The timing of that sucked. Ive been envious of all those people with nice thin phones ever since- about 2 years now.

Its just time for something new. Finally, the timing is just right for me to make the switch to a Galaxy device. Im pretty excited about it.

So while the dropping of data connection is annoying, its nothing more than a minor nuisance that a quick switch in and out of airplane mode cant fix; and I just have to do that for a few weeks. I can live with that.
I feel for those who will be stuck with this phone for much longer though. If I had to deal with that for an extended period, Im sure it would wear on my nerves after a while.

Same timing and experience here. I initially did a lot of research and wanted a Galaxy SII but Verizon dragged that way out and I couldn't wait and got the Bionic. And I also felt betrayed and foolish when the RAZR came out. One thing you should do is watch DROP TESTS (on YouTube) of the Galaxy phones....they break easy. I would recommend a good case. I am leaning toward an S4 myself too.

Back to topic, my Bionic is running pretty well after the Jelly Bean upgrade. I did do the Factory Data Reset and reloaded all my apps but I actually like doing that kind of tinkering.

Good Luck!

I still have the lag that was there before the update but I actually think somehow my battery life is improved.

I have a spigen slim armor case already on its way for the new phone. Maybe I'll see you at the S4 section.

You will see me in the S4 section. I am in Verizon RIGHT NOW pre-ordering my S4. I will keep my Bionic to use for media and with my Lap dock. :)

EDIT: They took too long and I ordered over the phone instead.
