Help Lost all contacts from reboot

My htc desire froze and went into reboot mode. Had the phone shop guy restore factory settings but seem to have lost all my contacts. Assumed they were stored in the sim but now fear they may have been on the phone. Is there anything I can do? I had backed it up with htc sync to my pc but can't see the contacts anywhere there either; where are they stored?

Check to make sure you have contacts set to sync via Settings>Accounts & Sync then touch your email account. Sync Contacts should be checked.

Alternatively HTC sync should be able to import contact details from Outlook or other sources (you may need to export them as a .csv file).

If you do have to start again it is worth saving them as google contacts so that they will always be backed up. Even apple can sync with google contacts.
