Help Lost contacts!

Promethos

Lurker
Hi everyone,

I have been looking for a way to get my contacts back here is what i did and the situation i am in:

I plugged the SGS2 (OS 2.3.6) in to my pc and inside the root folder i selected all folders and copied the folders to a new folder i created on the desktop.

All of the folders copied across successfully and i thought everything would now be backed up contacts,Photos, Photos within applications etc etc.

I proceeded to wipe the SGS2 so i could send it back to the carrier for a refund. Once i sent it off i looked in the folder for my contacts but could not find them. I searched all of the folders for .db files or a folder called contacts or people, but i have not come up with anything.

The original phone is gone now so i cannot retrieve it even if i wanted to but i just wanted to know if the backup i did could possibly have the contacts list in some abstract folder that i have not yet found with some random file extension.

Oh and i have checked my gmail accounts and i have checked so many sites and forums and consulted Google so many times i have lost count but none of the steps i have found so far have helped.

Please help me Android users you are my only hope left!

Did you ever sync your phone with your gmail account? If so, then you should be able to retrive them. Log into gmail, click on contacts and then all contacts. A list of all your names and numbers should appear.

Not much help to you now but it's generally a good idea to back up your contacts to a .vcf file once in a while by going to contacts - menu - import/export - export to storage

It has been mentioned on these forums somewhere that the contacts are saved to a SQL3 database file in the phone memory. It may be possible to extract the contacts from this file by some means but I don't know.

Good luck!

If you have connectivity with KIES and did a sync there in the past, you can salvage some of your contacts on your phone.

the location for contacts is found in this particular folder on your system root:

/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db

if you did copy that file through that directory structure, you can try attempt using SQLite3 editor or an alternative to that format to open and see if you can salvage your contacts.
