Root lost in the sauce

Hello everyone,

I really want to root my droid eris, but i am completely overwhelmed with what is going on. I have the stock firmware 1.5 which was upgraded to 2.1. I thought i read somewhere that if you updated to 2.1 then you arent able to root. Is this true? and if it isn't could someone please give me a step by step process? Also I'm very interested in Bugless Beast but have no idea how to get it or even put it on phone. Your time and help is most definitely appreciated.

If you updated via an OTA your fine. However the old posts saying you can't root because of 2.1 are no longer true. Now everyone can root regardless of their bootloader. What method you use to acquire root depends on your bootloader though.

what method would you suggest...because i did the sticky guide from 1.5 to 2.1 and i dont even know if i did anything right

If you worked through all of the steps, including and especially the prerequisites, with no error messages, than you're rooted and your device is awaiting your ROM of choice.

Look around, and read carefully instructions at ROM download threads. Here's where I started:

Known Droid Eris Roms, Patches and Hacks - UPDATED 05-11-2010 - xda-developers

Most of the various ROMs listed there are updated. Read around.. have fun.

Swee, thanks for the help..now I have 2 questions left. Where can I find buggy beast and do I need to wipe data before I unzip each Rom?

Once in a while you'll see instructions saying wiping is not necessary, mostly when moving from one version of a particular ROM to an upgrade of the same ROM.

Be sure to always read the dev's page thoroughly about that and other possible requirements.

Do you mean Bugless Beast?

I've only seen that referenced to the Droid, not the Eris.

I am not familiar with it, though; perhaps it is also for the Eris.

I'd suggest using the search link in the menu at the top of the Eris Root forums.

My favorite is xtrROM, now in version 3.03, although Aloysius Snow is a close second.

In that column to the left of the posts, below our user names, is info about us including what device we're running. You can enter that info in the "details" fields of your Control Panel (the "cp" link at the top left of the page).
