You could try going to google play on the web and see if that installs it or a factory reset. Just make sure you back up your contacts/SMS/emails etc as these will be wiped. Your contacts should be backed up anyway via your google account. You could also download the google play.apk from a trusted source and install it via the HTC sync or a file manager.
Personally I'd try all the above and leave the factory reset if all else fails, but I found it does work.

Have you checked under "p"? It;s now called "Play Store" not "Market" ...
