Lost Phone Utilities

I am coming from an HTC Incredible. I used a combination of Where's My Droid (for misplaced phone) and Mobile Defense (for a truly lost or stolen phone).

But, the main issue I had with them was that they required the GPS to be on in order to get a good location on the phone, and the apps were present in the app drawer and could be uninstalled.

I remember seeing an app recently that was similar to those that enabled you to turn the GPS on remotely, and was also "invisible" (not showing up in the app drawer or app information screens). But, not I can't remember which app this was.

Does anyone know of a Lost Phone app that will enable you to turn the GPS on remotely and secretly track it down (so as not to tip off the potential thief)?

Honestly, anyone who knows enough to look for an app like "where's my droid" It won't matter because the first thing they'll do is a factory reset anyway...

True, but I think SeekDroid gives you the option of remotely turning on the GPS. I do not leave my GPS on to save battery, so the ability to do that is pretty huge.

I use seekdroid but have never used it in practice. It allows you to track/lock/wipe/sound alarm via text message or the website. It can hide the icon in the app drawer, but it still shows under settings->apps->all. It gives you the battery level and list of recent numbers dialed. I dont think you can turn on/off GPS. The app cost is for one device. If you want support for additional devices or for advanced feature like 'breadcrumbs' and 'fences' it costs a monthly fee ($4 and up)

AndroidLost is the one I chose. It allows you to turn on GPS, take pictures and email them to yourself, you can have the phone speak anything you wish. All of this is available direct from a web interface. Totally awesome. You can also lock or wipe the device!!
