Help Lost/Stolen Desire

My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.

Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

wave secure or lookout would both tell you location of phone, remote lock the phone and also tell you if the sim is changed

Thanks. I found a few apps out there. Now it would be awesome if it could automatically activate my GPS as well, since I don't keep it on the whole time.

Thanks. Just gave it a try. It cannot switch on your GPS, but does get a reasonable GSM Tower triangulation of your location based on the sms it sends from your phone. I would say this is pretty cool.

have been using 'lookout'. its ok. locates ur mobile using gps or something. remote alarm n all. dont know how much all these works in time of need

Wave secure can, and you can remotely wipe phone and men card

People have told me this before, but it does not. It will use mast triangulation.

I now keep my gps on all the time. Its not really draining much battery if it's not actively seeking a position.

first thing i do if i lose my handset is contact network provider and give them imie number so as to block phone and render it useless, nowhere will unblock the phone as its highly illegal.still a pain in the tonsills when you lose it but at least its of no use to the theiving git who pinched it...

I have had my desire stolen last night out, I have contacted my network and they have put a ban on the IMEI

Can someone tell me what that prevents the person who as my phone from seeing? Will they still get onto the homescreen/messages/contacts?

Im stupid and should have put Lookout or Wave Secure on

Just looking for some advise really

Cheers

I wouldn't have thought your average phone thief (scum of the earth that they are) would be interested in your texts, emails or apps.
That's the way I see it anyway.
Chances are your phone will be factory reset and have a payg sim then sold to some random in a pub for

Not sure I agree. I think we have a new breed of scum now.

For example,, when I was burgled they stole my usb stick out of my desktop

They will rob anything for drugs money etc. Basically all i want to know what happens to the phone when the IMEI is blocked

Blocking the imei prevents the phone from connecting to a network. It essentially stops it being a phone.
