Help loud speaker

hi i have just purchased a htc one s its brill i love it and am just getting to understand it i have found one prob it says in the manual that when you turn the phone away from your ear the loud speaker comes on automatically i have tried this but it dont work am i doing something wrong or is there a problem i want to find out before i take it to the shop

The speaker doesn't come on automatically when you move the phone away from your ear, but it does switch to loudspeaker automatically if you turn it upside down.

You will need to enable this feature in Settings

Go into Settings
Select Sound
Make sure that Flip for Speaker option is ticked

There are also another couple of settings in there as well:
Pocket mode - which increases the ring volume when the phone is in your pocket
Quiet ring on pickup - so you don't blast your ears when you answer the phone
