Lousy down/up load speed on 3G

Just got home to Haverhill, MA and ran tests again with 4 bars showing.


Speedest showed 260 Kbps DL and 100 Kbps UL


I then ran it with the BroadbandDSLreports browser based test and got 264 DL and 112 UL.


Just for the heck of it I then tested with my wife’s BB Tour which I gave her when I got the EPIC and got 1870 DL and 760 UL


I for a moment don’t believe that this is simply an UL issue and it’s a sin that the EPIC is way below what a BB is doing.

have you guys noticed how much battery the 3g radio is pulling?!? I am comparing several Epics and an Evo and the power drain of the 3g radio on the epic is much worse. I expected Epcis battery lif o be better and it is worse and I think it is the 3g radio which is also giving us these bad speeds as well
 
For what it's worth, I can guarantee Sprint and Samsung are working on this. Hope to get an update out tomorrow on the status

Yes I have noticed this. My 3g signal is horrible. I can have my phone sitting on my desk doing nothing and within a few hours will be at 50% battery life. :(
 
So out of boredom, I pushed the 00001 PRL hack using VZW towers on 3G. 610/138 speeds. So any and all network caps are unfounded. It is the phone that is so jacked up.

My findings in Michigan...Pretty consistent...Doesn't matter what the download speed is, still can't get higher than 150kbps for upload.

Either that you you hear lying? that is soem serious problem for you. we can tell from the claim of 775. Why?

Sorry I don't have 4g in my area...When I figure out how to do a screen shot I will post a picture for you. I have tested it at least 30 times using different servers over the last 8 hours. yeah a hiccup!

Current test to a Chicago server 869 kbps down 623 kbps up

On that test Aero it was 1118 down and 776 up :)


I received a system update notification, I didn't know what that meant so I went and updated my PRL and checked my speeds.

My bad for posting :(

comon seriously, it doesn't mean people are lying, I've seen thse speeds too on two different epics, granted they only last for 2 minutes usually, but I've seen speeds of 600 upload and speeds of 350 upload and I'm not in a 4g area. not only have I seen them, I posted my screen shot proving it. and i have another screen shot on my new epic proving it as well but I'm at work so no way to upload it.

How can you "guarantee" they are working on this, when they haven't even acknowledged the problem?

They have about 5 more days before my EPIC goes back, I want there to be an EVO still available or else I'm just dropping this 2nd line.

Ugh....NOT what I wanted to hear. With faster phones and faster connections (ie, 4G), folks are going to be downloading/streaming a lot more data in the near future. I guess we shouldn't be surprised...it's a great way for these companies to make money. Heck, you can't even get a family data plan with AT&T! They will charge you a data fee per phone, which is exactly one big reason why my family will be moving away from them in November and going with Sprint. I really hope Sprint doesn't do away with their family package.
 
I say believe all the data...which means 90%+ gives upload 150 or less. I am in Ft Myers Florida and have tried at least 20 different servers, download varies, but average upload was only above 150 once (151). There is some sort of issue, don't know why there is an argument. Need to focus on whether or not there is a fix or if I need to return the phone...

We have heard reports of users experiencing less-than-expected 3G upload speeds with their Samsung Epic 4G. After extensive investigation, Sprint and Samsung have identified an enhancement that may improve upload speeds on the Epic. This fix will be made available in the next maintenance release. It’s important to note that network speeds are impacted by many factors when using commercially-available speed test applications and test results may or may not be true indicator of the actual network performance.
 
I seriously doubt Flash9 is lying at all. Just running the two moments my daughters have, I get the following: This is inside my condo. 1. DL kbps: 1427 UL kbps: 482 2. DL kbps: 1338 UL kbps: 561 I've seen their uploads as high as 850 or so and my moment before that had similar results. But it's always consistently high. Outside is higher, of course. Just for giggles, here's my Epic's: DL kbps: 815 UL kbps: 156
 
You and I and everyone here knows that you can test on 4G, switch to 3G with the display on and take that screen shot. I still call 100% BS.

the point is he is claiming 600+ upload on an epic at 3G. It is 100% BS. Teh machine wont do it and we all knwo it.
