Love My Connect Hate The Battery

Ok so after getting so sick of the esteem, took it back to metro 4 times, both mine and my girlfriends, so many problems i don't even want to start here with them. I got the connect while it was still on sale for 249. Man while it took a little to get used to the smaller screen, everything else about the phone is a dream, with of course the battery life issue. I only turn on WIFI and thats maybe 1 time a week for updates, and thats it. I have got rid of all of the metro bloatware that comes on the phone, and have even frozen the LG Keyboard, and the LG Home, as it is just an annoying memory hog. Now i am trying to find a good task manager that actually will allow me to kill tasks. On my esteem the Go Task Manager worked well for this, but on the connect the same manager does not seem to recognize anything at all. All in all i am thrilled with the phone. I really don't want to get some big 3850 battery cause then i can't use a case with it. Oh well sacrifices..

Rooted, using Rom Toolbox, TIBU Pro. Going to install Juice Defender today and see if i can recover a little bit more battery life.

sacrifices indeed.

turn all your radios off(wifi, 4G, GPS, background data) and only use them when you need to. JD will make it more convenient for you to do this but you dont necessarily need it. task killers are totally unnecessary. have you set up any clock profiles with romtoolbox yet?

any type of streaming will eat your battery alive, and even playing preloaded videos will tax your battery.

bottomline, tread lightly.

Yeah i did a lot of reading. Did not set any cpu profiles, idle with screen off the battery will last all day, and the power control widget works wonder for turning off WIFI, 4g and all the other stuff i don't need until i need to use it, then its a simple tap of a button.

I listen to a lot of music on my phone which does not do to bad on the battery, but for some reason when i make calls, and if they are long calls 20 min or so, it eats up the battery.

On BrokenOut ROM OCd @ 1.4. With Juice Defender running basically the "balanced" profile, ROM Toolbox tweaks in full force, Swype uninstalled, CPU profiles for screen on/screen off, Google Maps tamed and some other tweaks, I get about 13 hours of standby time (with maybe a couple calls and checking my mail/messages every hour or so) or about 3-4 hours of HEAVY use or gaming. I have the 1900Mah battery incoming and if thats not enough Im going to order the 2450Mah battery.

Sure its not as good as the almost 36hrs of standby time I used to get on my old Optimus M I hacked and tweaked the CRAP out of, but its good enough for most days.

i used to get 14-15 hours on my stock battery routinely with nothing but my radios turned off. you just have to not use the phone much at all and keep it on standby for most of the time.

KA24DERACE - How do you tame your MAPS? Is it keeping it so it doesnt keep running in the backround?

No, but there are a couple of things you can do to ensure it takes as little cpu time as possible (and therefore as little battery). One is keep your GPS off (duh!), two is in settings make SURE the "cache tiles" option is set to wifi only. And finally, use the new option to download a map for offline use and get the biggest map you can of the area you live/travel in. This way you are ensuring that maps will NEVER have to cache tiles as long as your in this area.

Doing all of this keeps my maps drain at well less than 1% (of APPS drain mind you NOT total drain)
