ok tried searching around havent found much luck on fixing the HTC Desire Low internal storage issue. i virtually have no apps installed on the phone besides the basics like google maps and navigation, flash, facebook, msn. and all the games i have installed are on SD card only like maybe 5 games if that. and my contacts are gmail.

so how do i fix this problem anytime i try to add a new app or game and if the option isnt there to move to SD card or is, i still get the warming.

I dont really want to root, and ive heard about Andriod SDK but couldnt find much info on how to run it properly

questions is... how do i fix this without rooting, im not against rooting i just dont want to go through the hassel of doing it and possibly bricking it.

1/ how do i fix this, i was just going to reformat to factory default and start from scratch with something that would help clean up internal storage

2/ if i redo my contacts and save them to SD or Sim (one of the options) istead of gmail will that save up room?

3/ does android SDK that force all apps/games to automatically install to the SD card and is it good for HTC Desire?

A big criticism of the HTC Desire is the lack of internal storage space. This is the reason myself and many others have rooted their handset at some point. Although I should point out that rooting the phone won't give you more internal storage, but rooting and flashing a custom ROM which supports full A2SD will enable you to store all apps on the SD card which will free up internal memory.

Without rooting and flashing a custom ROM your only option to free up space is to ensure the cache is cleared regularly on all your apps. This will soon fill up again, so it's only a temporary solution. The same applies to clearing your "data" for every app, although you will lose all your settings and log-in details etc.

I haven't used the method you address in point #3 but I know plenty of people who have and they haven't encountered problems.

Rooting isn't as complicated as it sounds. There are plenty of guides on this site and the internet. Do your research and ask any questions on here and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have dealt with the lack of storage of HTC Desire from 1 year and a half without rooting the phone. I have Android 2.2 (froyo) with HTC Sense, I have not rooted my phone yet and I don't want to do it. Probably it is not complicated but I don't want to brick it.

I have GMail, Exchange mail, Whatsapp, Shazam, YouTube, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and some other games, Dropbox, etc. I share the opinion that the main problem of HTC Desire is the lack of internal storage space, but I have managed during 1 year and a half moving apps from phone to SD without problems, so you can do the same. In my opinion, the best applications so far to try to optimise your phone space are:
- App2SD: it allows you to move easily your apps from the phone to the SD. Part of the app keeps in the phone, but you get big savings.
- Android Assistant: a very complete tool that includes a tool for clearing the cache.
- DiskUsage: it allows you to see the content of your phone memory and know which apps consume more space.

With these applications you can keep your phone space higher enough to avoid the annoying message of "Low Internal Storage".

Another good advice, if you don't use facebook but you have used once upon a time, is to remove the app "com.htcsocialnetwork...." and its data.

However, since yesterday, I have a new problem. My phone falled down and, although it is apparently OK, when I switched it on again, the "lack of storage" message appeared. Why? I didn't install anything while my phone was falling down to the floor. I have been looking for a big while through lots of fora and I have not found any convincing solution. The best anwer so far is that the Android phone or the running applications dump some files when they crash (the typical core dumps in programming, called in some fora "tombstone objects"). These files are supposed to be under the folder /data/tombstone, but I cannot read this folder.

Could anyone help me? Please, I would welcome a better answer than "root your phone".

Thanks in advance for your help
