Low on space after trying everything.

I will start out by saying I am fairly new at all this and sorry if I duplicate this issue. But no forums seem to be helping. I have gone though about a million different forums and tried many things and every time I sneeze my phone says low on space.

First thing I did was root my phone using the revoked method and am now running Android 2.2.

I have installed and used the SDK options to pull out the bloateware and apps that I have no use for. I pulled out all the .apk and .odex files relating to these and pulled about 6 or so apps. I then did a Wipe Dalvik Cache and rebooted the phone,

Then as per another forum I keep all my caches clean.

And as per another forum I used APP2SD and crammed all that will go to my SD card.

I have my mail clients set to keep minimal on the phone.
I keep recent calls empty.
I keep my sms & mms at almost nothing.
I keep browser clean and have 0 bookmarks.

I basically have absolutely every thing set to minimums and cleaned as per may other forums from here.

I have maybe 7 apps that I use all the time and no other.

And sneeze and my phone pops up storage is low.

*I have been reading on flashing new ROMS and not sure if there is a smaller ROM that my help with less junk in it???? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
*When I rooted with revoked did i get a new ROM flashed or would it be stock?

Are there any other options available??:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

A couple other notes. Removing pre-installed bloatware won't help since it's stored in a different part of memory (although it still feels good :D). Depending on which APP2SD you used, it may not move all of the program (a program can consist of the program itself, the Dalvik cache, libraries, and data).

I solved my space issues by rooting; then creating a EXT partition on the SD card (where you can move the entire program to, and it won't be interrupted if you mount your SD card as a disk drive when plugged in); then going S-OFF; and finally installing LINK2SD to move the entire program to the EXT partition.

Its funny how people root their phone and think it will automatically fix their problems.

There are 2 ways you can proceed. Well done for rooting because you couldnt do this without.

You may have heard of A2SD+. Notice the plus, it is very important. A2SD is an app that moves some off certain apps to the sd card. A2SD+ is a way of tricking your rooted phone into thinking some of your sd card is the phones internal memory.

You need to partition your sd card in a certain way to do this, and also flash a rom that supports this trick. I seem to remember you can flash the file on any rom (even stock) if it doesnt support it but i could be mistaken.

Another way is to become s-off and flash a custom hboot and smaller rom. The desire hasa default 250mb partition for the rom, but there are custom roms as small as 60mb. You can then change the size of that partition so the spare is put in internal memory to be used by apps. You wont be able to get much with sense though, theyre quite big.

All of the info on how to do these are on the guides on the All Things Root forum.

Here's how I solved the problem.

1. Partitioned my SD card with 2 primary partitions. The first being FAT32 and the second one EXT4 (1024MB). Use Gparted as per SURoot instructions
2. S-Off with revolutionary.io
3. If you cannot be bothered, just use Clockwordmod that can be installed via Revolutionary
4. Using Android Flasher, Flash http://alpharev.nl/bravo_alphaspl-cm7r2.img
5. Install a ROM of your choice. I'm a fan of Sense ROMs and have good experiences with LeeDroid v3.3.X Data version or RCMixHD CM7 version. By doing this internal memory now stands at 185MB with 65 apps installed. Note that there are other types of ROMs. AOSP (based on pure Android) and Cyanogenmods (which includes enhancements). I've not tried the latter two so cannot comment

Have a good read of SURoot FAQ and write ups. I've found them very helpful. You won't look back and wish you had done this earlier.

If it's saying you're low on internal memory, and you're really not, and its not letting you download apps, try the app "marketfix" It puts your cache on your SD card rather than in your phone, so you won't need to wipe your Dalvik Cache anymore.
