Low on Space getting annoying

I've got a question regarding rooting and internal storage.

I'm a non rooted HTC Desire user and I've struggled with internal memory the last couple of days.
And I was wondering, if you root and flash to a custom ROM, will it improve internal memory so you can install more apps & games?

+ is there a way back when rooted?

Thanks in advance

read both the FAQ's in my Sig.

read both the FAQ's in my Sig.

Thanks Danfrance!

Got my answers and I've considerd rooting ^^
Just need to get a bit more information on how to do things safely so I don't rush into trouble =)

Is there a thread or forum where every ROM is explained and shown on pictures?

Desire Index - Everything Desire is here! [UPDATED: 26/12] [PaYS MultiLingual MIUI] - xda-developers

The above thread on XDA links to all roms' individual threads. Most will have their own screenshots. Some may not.

Thanks man!

One more thing I would like to ask Dan.
In the thread "[FAQ] Apps2SD+", if you want Apps2SD+ there is a step by step proces.
In that process they say that you have to connect your phone in recovery mode. How exaclty do you get in that mode?
Is it the mode when you boot the phone and hold down the volume button?

Yep. In the rooting FAQ that one is. of course you need to be rooted already for that...

Power on whilst holding Vol down, then at HBOOT, use vol down to highlight recovery and power to select it.

Thanks for all the help Danfrance!

Got my phone rooted ^^
In retrospect it wasn't that difficult to do...

Just need to fix Apps2SD+ and search for a decent ROM =)

Again thanks Danfrance for the help and answers to my questions!

Yeah that was helpful thanks. I just thought **** it and I have cleared everything! (i use google contacts) and i dont seem to have lost anything important and now have 50mb free! woo hoo!

I cant believe how much my battery has actually increased too since having a clear out! It must of been a bad app or something and still 58mb of space left! Woo hoo!

The /data partition you refer to as internal memory is not just for apps. Emails go there, app data, app cache, contacts storage, calendar storage, dalvik cache etc etc

Lots of things.

Is there any way to cache in SD Card,
My Contact Size is about 10 MB, I want to transfer it to SD Card.

If you root and flash a custom Rom, you can use apps2sd+ this then moves everything except cache onto an sd ext partition.

Or you can move your entire data partition to a big sd partition.

You need to root for both of these and flash a custom Rom.

If the two faqs are not showing on my Sig, go to the desire root subforum, on the sticky, my faqs are there too

If you don't root, there's nothing you can do

i use to have this problem
but i just downloaded the 2.2
and it's so easy to move the app from the phone
to the SD card through the app manger

Awww. You must be new ;)

Most of us have been on 2.2 for a long time. Unfortunately as "move to SD" is limited, for some people it will not be anywhere near enough to prevent this issue.

I've got 40 apps installed, 90% of which are on SD card, and I haven't got the required 25MB free space to download the latest phone update

I don't know what else I can remove

Adobe Air and Google Maps take up a fair chunk but can't be moved to SD

The only other thing I can do is remove handcent, but I like it and I don't know of any alternatives that can be saved to SD card

remove adobe air temporarily, then use teh space for the update, then reinstall adobe air?
