Low on space - Internal phone storage is getting low (system storage)

Hi guys,

I think everyone by now knows that the 16GB memory of the Samsung Note splits between a 2GB (system storage) and a 11GB (USB storage). When you instal apps, it will somehow saved to the smaller system storage. Of course you can transfer the apps to your SD card via settings\applications\manage applications and select the 'On SD card' tab. Select the apps you want to transfer and there are 2 things that can happen. a) the whole apps will be transferred; b) only a portion of the apps is transferred.

There will be a time when this miserable 2GB will be full and the above message will appear again. By then, the only way to reduce is to DELETE the apps.

Anyone has a solution for this? ie can the WHOLE 2+11GB be made system storage?

Is there a reasons why Samsung does this split?

Many thanks in advance!

It's my understanding that the 11 GB is only for storing stuff like music, videos, etc. :( But hopefully someone will prove me wrong.

I complained that the Amazon Kindle limited you to 2 GB apps and 8 GB for books/vids, etc. But it's basically the same thing here. But by rooting and installing Cyanogenmod 7, I was able to use both partitions for apps.

Unless someone can show us a way to transfer stuff from the 2GB partition to the USB partition, I think the only thing to do is add an SD card.

Hi John - limiting the 2GB partition for system files, etc is a very good move for stability, but downloaded apps should be programmed to be saved NOT in this partition but at the 11GB space or better.... in the external 32GB SDHC. Can this be done? (Apols - I an new to the Note - just had iut for 3 days)

Hi yet another newbie here,

Can we possibly install an app by default in our external sd card w/o rooting?

I think one way is to root your device, and delete bloatware you don't really need. My memory status is shown in the pic below, and looks pretty satisfactory to me...
