Help Low on Space notification/Dialer Storage?

Lurker
I have been looking at other threads on this topic and none of them seem to provide step by step instructions for an HTC Eris phone. I am getting a "Low on Space" notification on my phone. when I go into the applications and sort by size, the biggest app (by a significant margin) is Dialer Storage. I have tried clearig the cache, deleting old text messages, and pulling the battery. none of it seems to make any dent in the space Dialer storage is taking up (almost 100MB). Some other threads say to delete the Dialer storage data, but I cannot find how to do that. The only options I see on the screen are 1)clear cache (done that, currently at 0.00B), 2) clear defaults (grayed out button which can't be pushed), or 3) force stop. Can someone tell me how to clear the dialer storage data? If i clear the dialer storage data will I lose my contacts too? I don't care about anything else but I would like to write down my contacts first if I would be losing that data. Any help would be great.

You can try an app like Call Log Trimmer, which can keep your call log set to only the last x calls (where you decide what "x" is). There are other apps that I haven't tried, if you search the market.

The thing that I recall about call log trimmer is that it actually trims when you receive a call, so you may have to cal your phone from another to get the trim to work.

But, perhaps searching the market for a call log trimmer app will be the solution?

Thanks for the advice Doogald. I tried a call log trimmer and it still had no effect on the space Dialer Storage is taking up.

Bah, sorry to hear it.

You may need to do a factory reset and start over from scratch.

As for contacts, are you syncing your contacts with Google, or are you using what the Eris calls "phone contacts" (i.e., they do not sync)?
