Low quality Call Picture

It seems that the new fresh ROM 2.3.3 has reduced the quality on pictures from the sd card assigned to a contact. Every time when i call i see that the picture is poor. Is their anyway of fixing that?
 
seems like when fiinishing reassigning the picture the app freezes not allowing the change to complete. anyone get that?
