Low RAM in SGS II

SS_GS2

Newbie
Hi,
I have a SGS II and I installed the "Android assistant" app recently. In the app under "Memory Info", it shows me the Total memory as 836.93 MB.
Now I have been under the impression that the Galaxy S II comes with 1024 MB of RAM, so I was wondering why the rest of it is not showing up?

Please help / advise.

Thanks...!!

Yeah that sucks, we've all got the same, it's just a thing they do with technology.
If there was a way to check, your 1GB ram sticks in the PC would probably be less than 1GB in the same way.

Hi Gearu,
Thanks for the confirmation. I was concerned that something's not quite right with my phone but now I am relieved..!!
Hopefully in the future software updates they free up more of this blocked RAM...

The remaining RAM is reserved for the system, its the same on all Android handsets. The SGSII has more than enough free RAM to mean there is no issue here.

Freeing up this "blocked" ram is not necessary nor is it even possible as going by how mobile phone manufacturer's calculate how much exactly 1GB is - it is significantly less compared to 1GB of computer ram. Nevertheless, the amount of ram you have right now is more than enough to last you for a long time - possibly till the phone itself dies and you will have to buy a new one as I don't see android using 1GB of ram anytime soon...

I know 1 GB is more than enough, it's just a case of "hey I've paid for it, so I should see it"... :)
