LTE Download Speeds

Well for me, it was the video quality but I understand your conundrum well. I wasn't sure if it was normal or going to be addressed or what. But in my case I knew the LCD panel in the rezound would "fix it" (in the sense that the issues I was seeing would be hidden by the LCD display). There are no guarantees that a rezound will perform better for you. HOWEVER, I think at least now, the rezound does seem to perform better inside structures and in marginal signal areas. Whether a software update can improve things on the Nexus is what many Nexus owners are hoping for, but it's anyone's guess if it'll happen in reality. :/

Probably I'm living in good signal area as I'm not experiencing bad reception problem on Nexus. GPS seems to work nicely too. Its ability to hold 4G signal could be better, but I believe it's software issue. GSM Nexus with the same antenna design, different radio chip/firmware doesn't seem to suffer this kind of reception issue that some LTE Nexus users are having.

A guy walked into the VZW store as I was talking to a rep about my slow speeds and the guy mention that his LTE NEX got faster speeds than his unlocked one that he had. Strange.

That's not strange. LTE nexus should be faster than HSPA+ one where it holds onto good 4G signal.

All of these are christmas stories you guys are hearing 2nd hand, time for you to get out there and start testing yourself...

Frederick, MD here.

Just did 8 tests, 4 wifi and 4 on 4g.
Averaged 20.47DL 6.2UL and Ping of 56ms on WIFI
Averaged 12.1 DL 8.2UL and Ping of 158ms on 4G

My signal has improved within the past month or so... maybe the store rep wasn't lying about a new tower going up in the area... santa barbara

I fluctuate between 1 and 4 bars, and get on average of all speedtests ov the past 2 months: 18 Mbps down, 8 Mbps up, 62 ms ping with standard deviations of 7 Mbps, 4 Mbps, and 15 ms, respectively.

I'm getting about 15 down and 9 up in the house. 2 blocks from my house I am getting around 40 down and 24 up so I'm thinking about moving. ;)

Now here's a good question though: how much does your speed vary? Try to perform 10+ unbiased LTE speedtests (throwing out only zeros).

Export and email csv, open in excel, data-to-columns, delimited by comma, and calculate "=AVERAGE()" and "=SQRT(VAR())" of the down. up and ping columns.

By unbiased tests, I mean, don't only test when you have a perfect signal, just test on LTE throughout the day at different times and locations, during normal daily activities, probably where you think you are most likely to use your phone.

For example, I use my phone at home (2-3 bars) mostly, so for me those means/variances are most meaningful. At the office I get 4 bars, but don't rely on LTE data as much.

Here's one thing I want to do is record a speed test and write down the signal in dBm and # of bars. Then after I get enough of those tests, I'll post the analysis.

Although my signal at home seems to have improved in strength recently (3 bars vs 2 before), all of a sudden a few days ago, the speeds have drastically gone down !?!?!

I used to get 14-18 Mbps down and 6-8 Mbps up with a ping of 60ms. Now it seems to be 6-8 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up with a ping of 100+ ms ?!?!?!

This is consistent with real world usage speed changes too. Verizon meddling with the network around me?!?!?!

Five minutes south of Pittsburgh airport - 5 DN, 2 UP

HORRIBLE and I've complained to Verizon numerous times and it falls on deaf ears or I'm told "we're faster than AT&T". (*%*&$^

On another note for everyone posting here, make sure your wifi is off as I think speedtest will use that connection.

Well even tho i had 4bars It was still full Rush hour, and in the DC Area thats alot of ppl competing for tower bandwith.

It's a wireless service, and besides being a shared service is limited by so many other factors, weather conditions, RF interference, your speed, moving objects, etc...
One thing is for sure, the throughput range of LTE is way higher than HSPA's and spectral efficiency as well, so you can't compare legacy technologies with LTE, God forbid the cable/DSL technologies.

That being said, I find NYC to be pretty amazing when it comes to Verizon's LTE capacity, cell density, and overall performance.

On 4.0.0.2 stock everything I'm averaging around 15 down x 12 up Milwaukee.

Beats my Time Warner Cable @ 15 down x 1 up. Highway robbery. They give you no upload bandwidth at all.. time to check out some other options. I digress

Edit

Just pulled a 25.29 down 14.34 up
