Man can't you people read? it said even after july 7th if you already have unlimited you are grandfathered.
I hope you're right. I read a couple of articles and the two posts in this thread and that assumption doesn't seem confirmed.
You know what bugs me about tiered pricing, its the way companies price their tiers. I hate knowing that I'm paying more per gig than the higher data users. Verizon is making money on the ones who aren't the ones abusing the data. I mean I understand why they are doing it, but it just bugs me.
I just wished they would just charge a $1.00 per 100 mbs for everyone. I think that's fair. Allow tethering and make people pay for the data they use. I think that would fix data abusing too.
How is it unfair or have anything to do with anyone other than the person thats using the data and verizon? If I use one or one hundred gigs, my data doesnt infringe on your connection. This isnt DSL.
I totally agree about not infringing on my connection speed or my ability to use my data..but apparently the reason why VZW and others are going to tiered plans is due to the high data usage that they are experiencing and the cost to provide the bandwidth. I understand their logic when they say 2gb or less is what most people need but in theory they are charging those customers more than higher data users. So I think it would be more fair if everyone pays the same rate. Why can't they start the tiered pricing at $20 for a 2gig plan? Don't you think the people who have had the $29.99 data plan and have been using less than 2gigs deserve a tax break? Haha? I mean some of these people have been paying $15-30 or more per gig for years! at least give them some rollover gigs..lol.
Btw, I like your avatar pic. Is that beyonce??? Jk
With all the discussion... 3G or 4G, I happened upon this Engadget article for your viewing pleasure:
Verizon tiered data plans coming July 7, starting at $30? (update) -- Engadget
Man can't you people read? it said even after july 7th if you already have unlimited you are grandfathered.
I think that once your contract is up they could legally do whatever they want to your account. Without a contract the customer has no bargaining chip :-/ Sprint will be next. I'm hoping this is a fad like the "minutes of the Internet" that AOL did way back when. With everything going to the cloud this is a really bad move for all the carriers. Also, if I get forced into an upgrade in 2 years I won't be using 4G. 2GB tier on a 4G network? Good luck with that hahatrue I shouldn't have left those out!
You will have unlimited 4g for the entire 2 years.
I don't know how it works after the 2 year contract is up. I also don't know what would happen if you a bought another 4g phone retail and activated it during the 2 years.
Really not a smart move - nobody is going to like the change, a few are going to tolerate the change, and everyone is going to lose something in the change.
Most of the sheep will not notice or care. The other power users will be mad, but are you going to go to ATT with the horrible coverage and worse service for $5 a month?
I know a lot of the details are up in the air, but I'm hoping that someone can help me with this. I am currently have a Dinc and the contract is up in December. I've been getting the early upgrade emails/mailings and have ignored them so far. I am currently on a family plan with my mother. I have the smartphone, she just has a regular phone. My fiancee is wanting to join my plan because she wants an iphone (...sigh...). Should we jump on this now and take the early upgrade & add my fiance before July 7th?
It's sounding like we should to get another 2 years of unlimited data! Any advice/insight/suggestions would be appreciated.
I don't understand. The max data I've EVER used was still under 1gb in a month. I lose nothing. For me, it's like having a region-free DVD player; it sounds like a great feature but I have no DVDs which aren't region 1. I'd never use that feature just as I'll never break 2gb in a month. I agree it would have been nice if they lowered the price of the lowest tier by $5 but Verizon's business model is nickel and diming it's customers. I think most people knew that going in. I sure did so this is no surprise. Actually the only surprise is that this deal isn't worse. I figure they'd bone us for sure.
Remember it only takes one bad apple to make the bushel bad. Every thought they figured might as well nip it in the bud before the majority does the free wireless tether?
That's what I'm thinking. I've been with VZW for 7 years. If they let me grandfather in I'll stay until renewal time. Then I'll switch to AT&T. I plan on hitting up a few countries in the next few years so it might be beneficial anyway. Not only that but they're cheaper.Great, I'm coming over from AT&T soon with whom I still have a grandfathered Unlimited data plan. These changes are making the move over to Verizon seem not as sweet as it once seemed like.
Then again, I've looked at my usage with AT&T and over the last year and I've never went over 1.25 GBs of usage, most of the time it's down around 700 MBs and the only reason I spiked to 1.1 GBs is that that month I ended up streaming a lot of music on the phone from Slacker Radio. Oh well, I guess that I'll cache my Slacker Radio music so as to not stream it.
I could get by with the 2 GB plan and if I go over by 1 GB (it's possible) at least the hit of $10 isn't too bad. I really don't see myself going over 2 GBs. The overage charges could be worse.
I wonder what the family data plans will cost and for how much data.
Though, I do wish the plans were $5 cheaper.
