LTE vs WiMax

Does anything get a little jerky with Android when you guys have LTE on with the Thunderbold? WiMax sometimes causes a little lag and jerkiness when browsing. It's better than it was when the EVO first launched.

I'm hoping Sprint will switch over to LTE. However, the whole roaming on LTE is another problem. If everyone moves to LTE, hopefully the FCC will say you must allowing roaming on it.

I have WiMax in my area but I'm always using my internet connection. When WiMax first rolled out I could only get it in my bedroom. Family and I are doing some moving and we are on the 3 floor of a hotel. Well, signal rocks but I am close to our "downtown area." My other house was 10-15 minutes from downtown. That's why I was saying 4G WiMax sucks at penetrating buildings. But its working well in my hotel room, then again there is a huge window in front of my bed. Doesn't know if that is a factor or not.

Someone was trying to say WiMax doesn't suck at penetrating buildings. Didn't feel like getting into an argument in this forum. I know its true.

It is average at penetrating walls. LTE is on a lower frequency so it penetrates better. No one said WiMax sucked.

It's pretty much well discussed that Wimax has a significant problem getting through walls...the signal is great if your standing outside somewhere, but once you go in doors, especially like a building in Manhattan...the signal just can't get in. Anyone saying otherwise is just picking a useless fight.

As for LTE...Seriously, I get strong 4G everywhere I've traveled in NYC since I got the phone. No issues when either indoors or outdoors. I've maybe seen the 3G signal once or twice, and that's in the basement of my business.

And to the OP, I'd have to say I haven't experienced any lag or jerkyness at all.

had an Evo for about 9 months, never turned on WiMax b/c i could never get a signal indoors, at work, or anywhere around Charlotte (wimax rollout city, btw)
sat outside the Verizon store, turned on Wimax to watch the Thunderbolt video review on androidcentral--and the phone lagged so much i couldn't even use it. had to turn it off & restart it just to get it to be responsive.

walked inside, tried the Thunderbolt, on full LTE signal and the phone was(and is) incredibly responsive.

luckily, Charlotte is completely covered in 4g so i've never been on 3g anywhere i go in this town. and i even get full LTE signal in the warehouse in which i work--an area that i never even got a data signal with Sprint on 3g

i could never do anything with WiMax, and always had it lag my phone when i turned it on. with the Thunderbolt i've never experienced any noticeable difference when on LTE.

LTE>Wimax

I was searching because of the recent LTE news with Sprint, and stumbled accross this post. Honestly I don't think that's WiMAX's fault--more of the Evo's software. Isn't the thunderbolt more powerful than the Evo? You are right about major lagginess when the 4G radio was on. I can say that doesn't happen on my Evo 3D though.

I remember the horror stories of the battery life on the Thunderbolt being total crap, and something about not having control over 4G on/off. That's not cool...

I vastly prefer WiMax compared to LTE on a thunderbolt. My TB constantly loses the 4G connection which is extremely annoying. WiMax on my EVO is rock solid.
