Root M130 Rooted!

Hello,
I'm new to the rooting process, but I've followed the steps listed here. I can't seem to get the s permissions on the su file. I looked up how to use the chmod command and tried explicitly setting them, but still no s. Any suggestions?

Yes, I got both from the play store. When that didn't work I installed the superuser app that came with the Su binary file. Neither worked.

hello Grynn,
there are a few reasons why it could not be working, like a extra space in the script, or using the wrong version of es file explorer, etc. Unless you want to continue with this method, i suggest another method that comes with a YouTube video tutorial. it may look longer, but IMHO its easier.
best of luck

Unfortunately, my access to a computer with a connection is very limited. Is there another way to do it with just the phone?

  • Regarding init.qcom.sdio.sh; this is the mobile data init script that checks for the WLAN (3G Data) card. It's only executed if data is on and WIFI is off. We know that if you boot the phone with WIFI on the script won't execute. My guess is if you then shut WIFI off and wait for your 3G data to connect, the script will then execute, although I haven't had time to try to verify this, yet.

  • As this is my first post here, I just want to say thanks to those who have put the time into figuring out how to root this phone, and taking the time to share it with others. And I also apologize if this was covered and I just missed it.

I've done a lot of reading in preparation of rooting my old C771, and I think I've got a good grasp on how it should all go. However reading the above quote has me a bit worried now. My C771 no longer has service as I've upgraded to the new C811 and plan to use it as a media/games player. With no 3G data to connect to will the script still run and root properly with no connection?

Sure will.
Just seen mine sitting there the other day in a draw lol

Good luck

HA!! I've been fighting with automated root programs for several hours here, and finally got a definitive error message that led me to posts saying that my phone was un-rootable.

But, thanks to this thread. My Commando C771 m140 2.3.3 now has root access! Took me a couple tries. FYI, activating airplane mode is not an adequate replacement for turning off wifi. Tried it again with wifi off the whole time, and it worked.

Boot Explorer made it easy to find the files, and their permissions.

everything you will ever need for this phone can be found on my google drive here.

ok so i have thoroughly researched this all to no avail. i understand the concept of the chmod 0777 /system/bin and have done so but for whatever reason i get a permission error when i try to push the su binary to the system/binary file. unfortunately i think this exploit was fixed in the m150 which is currently what im running unfortunately. and apparently i cant revert to 140 without already having root access. i wrote the code in the correct file and wrote it correctly. even tried changing it to 777 instead of 0777. dont know if that did or does a damned thing, but it was worth a shot in my eyes. im using the newest version of ES explorer... but i dont think that has anything to do with it as i was not even able to do this attempting to use an adb push. this is driving me nuts. im throwing in the towel for the time being. please, someone root a dang 150 and tell me how you did it. im literally pulling out my hair. so miffed i upgraded.

Hi emperor,
I will help you later today when I have my laptop in front of me.
If you want to pm me for Google chat or something so its quicker, fell free :)

first off, I can tell you for a fact that the version of es file explorer DOES matter. you need the old one.
second, I would like you to execute the following code to tell me if the rooting method has been fixed.
---
open up an adb shell
cd /
cd /system/etc
ls -l
---
at that point, post the results here. if you right click, and select mark, you can highlight what you want, and then press ctrl+c, then paste it into your response here.

ok yall.. i been fighting this thing for some time, es file explorer lets me mod and save text, however permissions dont change.. no problem moving SU into the bin folder, however all other steps still dont give me permission to run or own it..
I am running a linux machine so the adb push is more complex than just following steps, however i was also curious if anyone knows the commands to change the permissions on the phone using terminal emulator

You have to do it via the init.qcom.sdio.sh in the file. The commands for it are:
chown root.root /system/bin/su
chmod 06755 /system/bin/su

Special thanks to willister.. after gathering files that you compiled i started from scratch and finally rooted my commando.. got snowed in this morn so i figured id tryit again.. root went first time no problemss.. Thanks again.. NOW its off to rid of the V BLOAT haha

Ok yall I now am having issues flashing my GNM Recovery.. I downloaded the .zip extracted on my SD card, copied recoveryflash.sh to the root of the SD card..
IN TERMINAL:
$ su # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2/system
Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
/sdcard/flash_image: No such file or directory
# cat /sdcard/recoveryflash > /system/bin/recoveryflash.sh
/sdcard/recoveryflash: invalid length

what am i missing here, or is there a way to flash it with quick reboot or something

Thanks Will... figured most out.. I tried out monkeys blue rom with your gangnam style boot.. cool.. I love your red pill rom, would be awesome if it come off the matrx start with the andriod pissin on the apple, is there anyway i can get it to show both at boot.. might could buy you a drink if ya could hook me up with that haha

there are tutorials out there for making a boot animation, but I can basicly explain it here:
you have the desc.txt file, and the part0 and part1 folders. This is what the desc.txt file looks like with guide information:
[HIGH]
width height FPS
p 1(repeat 1 time) 0(wait 0 seconds) FolderName
p 0(repeat 0 times infinite) 0(wait 0 seconds) Foldername
[/HIGH]
then you have the folders with the jpg pictures numbered in the order you want. Becuase this is linux there IS A DIFFERENCE between 1 and 001.
make sure you make the zip file uncompressed as well.
you can look at the example animation on my google drive named "redPillPiss". It happends to be the same type of bootanimation you were looking for :)

cool, thanks.. i hadnt seen that on your google drive, or possibly overlooked it.. also a friend wants me to do up his m120.. was wondering if there is a certain rom for that or if i can flash a stock rom m130 and go from there.. we are both page plus, so the innopath updates dont work anyway, just wondering how to handle the build difference aint fount much on the 120s

tried to flash redpillpiss.. comes to message saying
E:/update script not found
Installation aborted

What is update script, I havent seen anything on that either
