Root M130 Rooted!

Followed the 40 step process in post #125 to the T. Step #31 threw me for a loop because it said 'su copy failed'...reading through a bit, I turned my wifi off (was connected to my house wifi) and restarted phone. THEN I copied su over to system/bin (successfully) and continued on.

Haven't yet installed superuser or busybox but I checked with ADB to make sure su had the proper permissions and it does.

Thanks for all the info people!

That would be sweet if you could shoot me the nandroid backup . My friend has a commando and I was going to wait til he upgraded so I could use it to make a back up. Once again tommy thank you for all your help.

the updater would not work for me .can you post the su 3.1.1 your using ..
I grabbed one and replaced it and had gotten locked out of superuser
deleted it and replaced it back and did not follow the steps and slots wifi
so the phone is now back to stock..

and is there a why someone can send me a system stock back up that I can execute from my PC to restore all the files back to factory
My back up with titanium is corrupt and can not restore anyway with out root access
can this nandroid backup you stated you have be flashed from the a pc ?

thanks for any help

Hello, all you tech junkies! :D

This is my first smartphone, so, this is also my first rooting attempt. I wasn't all that interested in rooting until I found out I could potentially boost my signal strength by doing so. Willing to take the "brick" risk for that.

Anyways...

I've gotten up to the point of where I have to push the su file with ADB....and, I just can't do it  According to the guides I've been following from a Google search, I shouldn't be having any problems.

I downloaded the files Willster posted earlier (very much appreciated) and I already had the drivers installed on my computer.

I open the command prompt in the same location that I have the adb and su, and attempt to "adb push su /sdcard/M130 root" to the directory that I've created on my SD card using ES File....but nothing happens :(

I've tried multiple combitnations of commands, but I just wasn't able to get it. I figured I'd come out of the forum's shadows and see if you kind souls would mind doing a bit more leg-work for me :p

...also, this smiley was just too funny not to use, considering it pretty much defines how I feel about my situation: :pcguru:

rhippy: That's something I found out too, it fails when trying to upgrade. Anyone else ran into this? Any benefits to the newer version that stand out or is it small peanuts in the grand scheme of things?

So far: installed superuser, busybox, root app delete, launcherpro and juicedefender. Got rid of all the crap (NFL whatever, verizon stuff, bing stuff, dock loader, skype, some other stuff) and the phone is REALLY quick now. Exactly what I was looking for :D

Undesired: I skipped that step and hooked the phone up to my computer (unchecked usb debugging) and changed the connection type to mass storage. It then shows up as a removable device when I open up My Computer, like a USB stick. Normal copy/paste works here, it'll probably work better for you (worked better for me, SDK and ADB was all new to me).

It should then be on your SD card, then continue on.

undesired copy it over with ES File explore or root explore ..
MAKE SURE the wifi is off
SideWinderGX
I am not sure what benefits are but I added the new one manually and screwed myself
got the phone back and all but wifi is screwed and the backup I made is not good
so Before you go any farther would back up and make sure it a good copy..
if you get that su out of date notification .. turn the notifiaction off in superuser
there is a little check box .. If I would of seen that first I would be all set..

I am still in dire need of a img to restore the system back to oem and start over

Much appreciated thanks guys

Awesome, Sidewinder, thank you! I'm pretty sure my Commando rooted, working on getting a backup on nandroid, then to delete things!

Oh, and one last question...should I turn off automatic updating on all my apps, to be sure an update doesn't ninja brick my phone?

Thanks for this incredible thread, people =)

I redid the process and this time did not update su with superuser app and it worked fine. Note I did get an error that said to put a check in Debug box in settings and it rooted again. so, either the debug box or not updating did it.

if your having troubles updating su then start the process with the latest versions of su and superuser from here: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
unzip on computer, copy to /sdcard, copy to /system/bin.

auto update of apps wont ninja-brick your commando. Its more of a personal choice.

I deleted Superuser and tried SuperSU and no binary error and Busybox updated to the current version / level.

Superuser update fix did not fix anything for me either.
Use SuperSU

So I just performed my first root of any phone and I have to thank everyone here for their posts. So very helpful as I ran into every bump along the way and still was able to get it done without asking questions. Even performed the GNM and Nanobackup Tommy suggested without issue. Now, I am off to look elsewhere to see if there is a listing of verizon bloatware that is safe to remove!

Thanks again!

If i may know, what exactly your problem now with wifi screwed, and the need of .img file ?
Do you still have root access ? :)

rasta4rest I manually added the su 3.1.3
after all was said and done with following the first post All was good till
I Added the su 3.1.3 manually then when I rebooted it was denying superuser rights
so I manualy deleted the new su and when through the whole 9 again and never turned off the wifi ( that's what I think happened) so no superuser / root any more
but the phone works other wise..
in the wifi settings it is always trying to turn on .. and after a few attempts
just under it it would display "wifi on" but it says "error"
the img meaning a system image I can use to restore it to factory files and permissions via my computer..

@tommytopdrive that link you referred to what su would be used in our case ..?
thanks

1. If you have already installed GNM Recovery , then it's easy because you can re-root your device via Recovery Mode. No need additional files.
After that , you can change the permission /system/etc/init.qcom.sdio.sh to rwxrwxrwx [chmod 0777] to fix your wifi.

2. If not , you can go check HERE , this method is best solution for your case [i've encountered the same exact problem , now it's solved]. What you need only flashing GNM Recovery for Commando , which you can find HERE.

I never figured out how to get gnm installed , if i did I have no idea how to use it
i'm the biggest noob here
and also that file is still chmod 0777
but no go ..
U ised android terminal to remove the su3.1.3 after I screwed the phone up.. so I can get back in with root explore to add the original one posted
and tried everything under the sun after with es explorer and root explorer
I am getting my replacement today ..:)
and I will wait till I know what 3.1.3 su to use from the start
so I don't screw this one up..

I rooted the first time in a few minutes
but spend hours trying to fix it
If I would of knew more when I backed up with titanium it did not do a system back up , that I needed to use nandroid I would not be in this position

thanks for your reply

ps Im not sure this is the right file
recovery-ra-commando-3.06-gnm.img
and the other one is locked
recovery-ra-commando-2.**-gnm.img
not sure if thats the right file either lol

recovery-ra-commando-3.06-gnm.img <-- This is the file.
Another one was the old version.

Install GNM Recovery is the first must have thing to do after rooting done with this device.

Just noticed in terminal I am partially rooted I do see $ at the prompt
also noticed the su is not root.root its app_109.app_109
and I can not change the ownership / group back.. this may get me fully rooted again to fix it

I just tried http://androidforums.com/commando-a...ll-gnm-recovery-via-fastboot.html#post5395903
and just gets stuck on the boot screen .. the pc did pop up it was in fastboot tho but the commands did not do anything..
where do I get GNM recovery .?
thanks bud

Just follow and read carefully from the #1 Post.
You can't just unlock fastboot mode it's disabled by default ( Verizon ).
Everything was done from that stuck G'zOne boot screen and command prompt ( ADB ). You should have already downloaded GNM Recovery .img before doing that ( ver. 3.06 )

It's a simple "permission" and "ownership" case, but the solution's not that simple to solve.
If you simply can change permission and ownership, whatever method you've used then you're simply have root access. But back again that's the problem.. :D

I could not for the life of me get that fastboot mode to work..
yes Verizon..
well I did go to verizon yesterday with the WiFi issue .. they looked it over and said the antenna was not good LOL
they send a replacement
but I have this old phone for a few days to make this work..
I'm going to test it again..
If you around later and wouldn't mind holding my hand LOL
would be great I will not tell anyone .. LOL
Just in case I screw ths new one up I can fix it quick

Ok, so....I have no idea about what I should do to go about installing the GNM Recovery.

Do I just have to download the .img file from the link posted, or do I have to download the flashrecovery.zip and go through the ADB process/script?

EDIT: If it is just the .img I have to download, where do I download it to? The system path that was given on the All in One Recovery thread?

My advice keep the new one for rooting later. You should follow this guide from tommytopdrive to root that one.

Im still around here no prob,i've encountered the same problem and no one / nowhere to find the solution. :)

It's time for me to share with everyone since i've found the solution myself.

Put it on your Phone SDCARD folder or /sdcard from android explorer.
Then follow through entire guideline from GNM on there thread.

An elaborate bow and sweep of the hat to eagle-eyed tommytopdrive. Ordered a Commando last week, read with dismay of the rev. 100 disaster, was then delighted to learn of the reversal of fortune. Commando arrived today and is now back in user control, thanks to tommytopdrive.

Thank goodness there was a shred of FOSS available to unravel the mess Verizon made of this phone with all of their value added fluff.

Edit: Seems to me that tommytopdrive has earned an immediate promotion to several pay grades above "Junior Member." :-)

I asked this last week in the other thread but got no reply...

Has anyone removed the PTT app and if so did it cause any problems? I no longer have a commando but I'm working on one for a friend and he does not want the custom recovery put on the phone.
