Root M8 flashed firmware in cmd, now stuck in HBOOT

Here's your AT&T update method for s-off -

Backup apps and data with Titanium Backup before proceeding.

First, you're going to do a full firmwate update to get all of the latest firmware on your M8.

This is going to kill your TWRP, so we'll come to that.

Get that here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/att-4-4-4-firmware-signed-encrypted-t3031703

Go to where it says:
Option 2)

Rename zip file to 0P6BIMG.zip and place on your external SD card. Reboot to hboot and allow bootloader to update/flash

Download Links Do NOT mirror these elsewhere.

Stock signed/encrypted (includes stock boot and recovery)

Lollipop
(Get the link right below that Lollipop, they don't want that mirrored here)

I've put the instruction in red. Reboot to hboot means hold volume down while powering on, it should go into an update cycle upon boot.

As @SikTroll says - 0P6BIMG (zero pee six bee eye imm gee).zip is the file name.

After you reboot, remove the 0P6BIMG.zip file from your external SD card - or it's going to install on every reboot and you do not want that!

~~~~~~~~
Reinstall TWRP -
Hold volume down while powering on until you get to the HBOOT or FASTBOOT screen - use the on-screen instructions for navigation to get to FASTBOOT if it booted into HBOOT. Plug in to PC, it should say FASTBOOT USB highlighted.
Get latest TWRP -
https://dl.twrp.me/m8/twrp-2.8.6.1-m8.img.html
Copy/move the twrp-2.8.6.1-m8.img file to your fastboot folder (sdk-tools per before).
Next, Windows Explorer, sdk-tools folder, shift+right click for menu, choose Open command window here. In command window -
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.1-m8.img
After okay and about 16 MB transferred, do
fastboot reboot
~~~~~~~~~

Get your favorite rom to try:

ARHD - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694917

Or ViperOneM8 - http://venomroms.com/htc-one-m8/

Go right to the ViperOneM8 4.3.0 main link.

With Viper, you *must* choose the full wipe from within the Aroma installer, and do NOT wipe separately from TWRP.

Install rom, then reboot - ensure rom installed ok.

~~~~~~~~
Now for the audio mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/mod-audio-hk-bs-aroma-switcher-4-1-0-t3035354
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934536362
Flash HK_BS_Switcher_4.3.0.zip file from TWRP via the Install command.
The XDA thread shows a series of pictures at the end of the first post to guide you through the install.
You want:
  • Harmon Kardon
  • GSM&Viper (don't worry, it's known to work on ARHD)
  • Flash ADSP?
    • YES! -- But only the first time you do this mod.
    • NO -- only whenever you flash another rom
    • Example - you try ARHD, you flash this, say Yes, it's the first time.
    • After ARHD, you flash Viper, you flash this, say No, you already have it.
    • When in doubt, say YES.
Reboot at the end of the HK install.
If you don't like the HK (you will like it) run this again and choose Boomsound - it will remove the mod and restore you to stock.
~~~~~~~~

Reboot complete - do basic setup, get Titanium Backup, restore your Titanium backup.

Go to TWRP, make a nandroid backup.

Profit. :)

Thank you Earlymon for your taking time out to guide me with your excellent and concise directions!!

You're the BEST!

I'm at work k now but will get on this probably tonight. I have the kids this weekend, and my daughter wither the inspire 4G is coming too. Do you know if that one click toolkit is good to use to do everything (root, s off , unlocked, etc.)? Sorry I can't remember the name.

Oh, I forgot - let me check out the Inspire and get back to you.

Do not use M8 components (recovery or roms) on the Inspire.

Each has its own needs.

I won't. There's a couple different roms up for the inspire/desire, that look pretty good. ARHD has one and there's another, I think like kit Kat or something. But I saw a one click totally does it all, on YouTube. That is, as far as unlock, root, s off. And then you're ready to flash Rom. Not exactly sure if firmware was address ed, but it looked pretty easy.

Don't follow youtube instructions lol.

So yeah, I remember the Inspire - from 2011.

What you're calling an all-in-one was probably Revolutionary s-off.

It was pretty good, I used that myself.

Problem today is finding the right version, drivers, etc etc, after all this time (precisely the reason to sometimes avoid youtube instructions - you never know if the links are trustworthy or the instructions sanctioned by the actual devs).

We had someone resurrected and successfully use Revolutionary just this last week.

I'll sort out details for you.

Roger that. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your help, but I certainly can express it thru PayPal! Roger that? And here is one of the methods I found. http://www.droidgator.com/how-to-root-the-htc-inspire-4g/ and the other one. http://www.****************/device/htc-desire-hd/ http://www.****************/device/htc-desire-hd/ Not sure why it's pasting with asterisks. Third edit.

Anyway, different Revolutionary. Near the first s-off was unrEVOked, later that morphed into Revolutionary.

http://revolutionary.io/

But that doesn't work on the Inspire.

The Ace Tool Kit did work -

http://androidforums.com/threads/ho...simunlock-supercid-for-inspire-4g-dhd.702100/

But the developer pulled it down -

http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=378#comment-963

So I wouldn't try the Droid Gator version.

Plus, while I'm a big fan of s-off, with a phone that will never see a firmware update again, why bother?

I'd HTCdev.com unlock it and install 4Ext recovery (no TWRP here) -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377757

Anyway, the guides are a little older, less easy to follow - let me put one together for you.

With the right recovery file it'll be pretty obvious to you.

I should have one later tonight or more likely early tomorrow for the Inspire.

Do you need a walk through on the HTCdev.com unlock? I ask because I know you've solo'd on that before.

Well, just got home. One of my girls got seven sacks in her flag football game at 5:30, then celebration dinner for her at in n out....then another needed trip to Wal-Mart for school, I have back injections at 8:40 am , so as much as I'd like to do the M8 tonight, I'd better wait in case my driver has to call me in the am. Not that there's much of a chance of doinking the phone tonight, but just to play it safe.......So I'll have all day tomorrow since I took off for the back thing. I'll get it done mid day most likely. Will keep you updated and thanks again for the guidance! Excellent work!

Did firmware as directed. Rebooted, stayed at white screen with green htc for an hour. Held all three down til shut off. Was able to hold down vol dn and power to get to hboot. Thats it so far

Go ahead and reinstall TWRP from FASTBOOT USB mode while you're there.

Then the rom, and so forth.

Remember to delete the 0P6BIMG.zip from the sd card - you can probably do that with the TWRP file manager.

I went ahead after I sent above message and removed firmware, then flashed twrp, then Rom. Now at daughters football practice. Just finished stopping a bunch of un wanted apps from installing, wanted to give you an update. So far so good. Will HK when I get back home. Thanks again! This is gettin easier. Mostly due to your guidance, which I appreciate more than you know. Back injections went well. Eight shots! No anesthesia. No pain no gain! Will hopefully get Brielles phone flashed this evening. All will be well.

Then the rom, and so forth. Went ahead with HK mod. Went fine. It sure is nice when all goes according to plan man! There WILL be something coming your way I promise!

Are the APN settings correct?
Settings are not laid out the way they say they are. Was actually in there once and made a couple entry changes but can't find way back in. Same thing happened last phone. It's gotta be just a setting and I'm still looking but att people have no clue, and they wanted to send me back to the att service center where they test your phone with their SIM to diagnose hardware. After that checks out fine, they scratch their heads and say "would you like to exchange for another refurbished?"
