M8 vs g2

Blix79

Lurker
Got the g2. Getting a new from insurance because the old got a water damage. But I cant decide whether to keep the g2 or sell and buying the HTC m8.
Any who have had both who can give some comparisons regarding which is better in what.
My main focus is battery duration, browsing the Internet and music. Never playing games. Sometimes tho watching movies or series on Netflix.
But I really can't decide whether keeping the g2 or trying the m8.
So hopefully someone here can give a few helpful comments on my issue.

Many thanks from lean olsen

I can't speak for the G2, but the M8 is fantastic for media. Music sounds great, and watching videos is also, especially if you do it without headphones. Headphones DO sound awesome, but if your preference is to watch/listen without then the Boomsound speakers are second to none.

Actually that boomsound wasn't a priority for me. But something I know I will love using. Since not always I'm able to use spotify connect, so I'm on phone speakers

Hi Blix79 and welcome to Android Forums. I can't speak about the G2 but you will not be going wrong with a M8. It's a very quick, sleek, and smooth phone.

We do have a specific area here at AF just for asking the opinions of our members about device A or B. You might want to check out the area for site wide opinions. You aren't likely to get more than a +++M8 posts here.
And yes, it's that great of a phone. Here is a link to our device and carrier comparison area: Device/Carrier Comparisons - Android Forums
Good luck.

Ohhh sorry. Didn't know I posted in a wrong sub forum. But i think I've all ready narrowed it down to a m8 if it fits my hand. Such many good reviews on it. So many thank I all

Does the M8 have Beats audio software?

No, it has "Boomsound" which is both the name for the front-facing speakers as well as HTC's version of the Beats software. The M8 does *really* well with music, IMHO. I had the GS4 before this, and I thought there was something wrong with my truck and my headphones (or my aging ears). Nope. It was the device.

So it equally sound just as good (with headphones) as the M7 with beats software?

No, the sound on the M8 is better than the M7, not a lot in it but it's still better.

I can't speak to the M7, but I had the GS4 which obviously did not have Beats audio. I also had the HTC EVO 4G LTE which did have Beats.
  1. The GS4 sounds awful
  2. The EVO sounded really good
  3. The M8 sounds best of all
I can't stress that enough. For me (music ~all~ of the time at my desk at work), the M8 is the best device I've ever owned for music.

In fact, I usually upgrade once a year to keep my device fresh and valuable. I always sell my previous device to cover the cost of the upgrade. I can't see myself giving up the M8. It's perfect for me.

Hopefully the M9 (or whatever) comes along soon, and rocks my world again! :)

M9 will be out around April.

I have the M7 too and its speakers are very good and were the best out there, until its big brother the M8 came out and overtook it.

Went down to the shop and bought the m8. Had to try it.
But got some issues. Softkeys. Cant they be re arranged? Actually taller than I thought. But so much wasted space. Even my s4 got bigger screen sadly.
But it runs really smooth and great sound. Tho the boomsound isn't as loud as I thought

I went from the razr maxx to the m8. Wish I would have got something else. Its too big/tall for me. Battery drains fast, Rounded back so it doesnt sit flat, wobbles when trying to use it, camera sucks only 4mp. Thinking about selling it and getting something else

One of the best things about the Android world is the mass of available options. What works for some is annoying to others. It's a good thing we didn't just have the gPhone as the only option. :)

I'm sorry you don't like your choice. I hope you find one that suits you.

For me, the M8 is as close to perfect as any phone I have ever had:
  • I love the size
  • The battery lasts a day and a half for me
  • The rounded back fits my hand & pocket perfectly
  • The camera is less important, and works fine for my needs
