M80006 wifi doesnt work - upgrade?

i bought one of those china-man pads.
it arrived today, looks ok, touch screen isnt great but speed is ok.
the WIFI doesnt detect any AP's. i tried disable enable airplane mode etc. nothing helps.

it has android 2.2 on it. i was hoping an upgrade might fix this, but i am new to android, not sure how to upgrade or if it is even possible.

any tips would be appreciated!
(it has an Ethernet connection and a USB connection)
 
As I understand it, there are really cheaply made pads out there and they are not to reliable, but since I'm not a pad expert, I'm going to suggest you try this question in the Pad section of our forums.
