Magical cracking screen

So I woke up yesterday and there was a giant crack running from the top right corner down to the bottom right by the home screen.

Didn't drop the phone or do anything crazy to it. Then today, it's got another crack starting at the same place as the first one going to the left side, and a nice crack connecting the two cracks. All I did was place it on a night stand, and this morning I'm greeted by several new cracks.

I did pull off the screen protector, which I'm now regretting. I assume this means I won't be able to get it covered under warranty. Anybody dealt with a cracked screen before? Are there local shops that could repair it quickly? Sending it off for repair isn't attractive, as I'd rather not be without a phone for days to weeks.

when I got my first one I cracked my screen straight across the screen pulling an exhaust off a car, called vm had a replacement overnight.

Sounds like u mightve chipped it when u were pulling off the protector. Even the slightest little chip can develop into a crack via thermal shock. When the phone was idle off the charge, it was most likely cooler, so the glass contracts. Then plug in ur charger...the phone heats up and BAM! The glass expands near the fracture and u sir r now one of the countless victims of thermal shock. Happens to windshields all the time. Sorry for channeling my inner Mr. Wizard.

Hrm, so I suppose I wouldn't recommend this screen protector removing thing to anybody. However, that was a few months ago that I did that. And this phone has seemed pretty durable until now....

I tried calling VM, the number they list, 1.800.505.3565 goes to some recording that says "thanks for calling about the Genie Bra"

well, i called the main line and managed to get through to someone. They say a new phone is on the way. I've been very happy with Virgin Mobile, just wish they'd get a better phone. What's wrong with Apple? Everybody I know who has an iPHone is on some family plan, so their bill is comparable to mine. The only reason I switched was because the cheapest individual plan was $90/mo, now it's just one thing after another... no updates, random crashes, slow or nonexistant GPS, spam included with certain apps, lack of apps, grrrrrr... sorry, just venting. Enjoyed my gen1 iPhone for 3 years, on my 2nd Android phone, trying to give it a fair shake, but it's just so glitchy, and the phones are filled with issues. If this is what it's like after 6 months...

Well I feel that it's not very fair to compare an Iphone to a lower end android phone. That's like comparing a nice luxury car to a little compact.

A better comparison would be to one of the many (and I do mean many) high end android phones. The thing is Virgin Mobile wont sell phones like that. No prepaid probably ever will sadly.

I've actually thought about just going to Verizon and signing that evil contract just to get a great phone, but two years is a long time to get into bed with the devil.

Sorry to hear about your luck shiggly. If you are really in need of an iphone fix you can take an iphone (AT&T or unlocked) and get a Straight Talk sim card and pop it in. The card is 15 bucks, and their unlimited everything is 45 a month. That might be a better direction for you.

Best of luck.

Actually you can use any GSM phone on T-mo, Simple Mobile, and Straight Talk... And for CDMA phones there's always Cricket. So you always have a choice. I personally never have signed a cell phone contract and hopefully never will. And I'm pretty sure that maybe the iPhone 4 and 4s are the only ones better than the MT, at least performance wise...

I mentioned the iphone because the OP seemed interested in it, and there a quite a few people who have switched to straight talk with the iphone so he has plenty to read from.

I've actually been thinking of going to them too (I hate contracts) but what it would cost me to get an unlocked phone is a bit more than I'm willing to spend.

If its the iPhone ui you are after I suggest you give miui a shot... Its the best of both worlds... You can be a virgin or a fruit, but youcan't be both...

Well actually that's not entirely true... The iPhone can dual boot iOS and Android... Although I don't know that you can on ios5, but I know you could on earlier versions...
