Help Mail doesn't work on wifi

I set up my email account when my wireless was turned off and everything worked fine. I had no problem authentication my email or password and I was able to receive and send mail without any problems. Then at home I turned on and connected to my wireless and it shows that it is connected to the router without any problems. I can surf the web without any problems, however now my mail has stopped working. Is there anyway to use the mail app with the wireless turned on?

I use gmail and it works on wifi. Only explanation I see is that your email provider may give access to email only if you are using its network connection. In any case you can access through web mail

Sounds like an SMTP authentication issue - as alek_73 pointed out some providers only allow access to their servers over their adsl lines.

I had a similar issue so I' used gmails SMTP servers to send all outgoing mail, including e-mails from other providers, and it works fine over wi-fi and 3g...
