Help major battery issues

Lurker
so i have a galaxy s2, and it was working fine not too long ago.

within the past month, i noticed every now and then, when i'd yank the phone off the charger, it'd go from 100% to some other %. initially, those first few times, it was only a drop of 10-20% then just a few days ago, it started dropping 60-70%. plugging the phone back in once the drop occurred, seemed to fix it after some charging time.

yesterday, it has ceased to charge in any kind of a logical fashion. it seems that sometimes a little power trickles into it as i can keep it kind of hovering around 3-10% charge with enough unplugging and fiddling with it.

this has been happening both with phone on, off, in airplane mode, with data connections, with and without a battery monitoring/charging app, with three different wall sockets on two different circuits, one hard wired charger, two usb plug chargers, two usb cables, three batteries, and two car chargers.

currently, any attempt at prolonged charging with the phone on or off yields only a steady drain with an intermittent increase of a single percent or two despite the fact that the battery indicator will switch to showing 100% after a few moments.

most recently, i have tried swapping a fully charged battery from my mother's galaxy s2 into my phone in the hopes it would be able to keep that charge, but no luck. as soon as i unplugged it after a few minutes, it dropped right to ~70%

all three batteries have charged fine and hold their charge fine in my mother's phone.

any suggestions and etc?

i just did, a google search for just what is needed to clear my battery stats directed me towards the "battery calibration" tool, but it requires root access.

my phone is not rooted. any ideas on what app might let me do the same thing without being rooted?

there's also a new problem as well, every so often, my phone will go into "spasms" repeatedly switching off charging because the voltage is too high and then turning it back on.

A simple method that I use is...

1. Turn off your phone.

2. Fully Charge.

3. When you get the 100% signal, unplug the charger

4. Remove the battery and put it to one side.

5. Wait for 2 minutes

6. Meanwhile, press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds

7. After a couple of minutes, insert the battery

8. Turn on the phone and go to Settings > More > About device > Status and check if your battery level is indeed still showing 100%. If not, charge until full.

9. After that, you can make some cycles of fully charge/discharge to 15/20% to complete the method.

2. Fully Charge.

that step isn't happening. on or off, it charges only a few percent if i'm lucky. the closest i've managed to get was 88%, but even that wouldn't hold once i got there. even taking a fully charged battery out of my mother's phone and popping it right into mine, as soon as my phone boots up it's be in the 70's

most recently the batter drained until the phone turned off. i now have it off and am trying my luck with charging it while off.

It may well be that you have a damaged USB port, I noticed that you used the word, "yank", in connection with disconnecting. Providing your battery is charging fine in another phone, a damaged USB port is the most likely explanation. Try cleaning the USB port, carefully, with a soft toothbrush and check to see, with the use of a magnifying glass, if there is any discernible damage to the ports connector.

As per #1 in my previous post.
