Major Touch Screen Problems

I have a Moto Droid. It's running on official software, I've done no customization whatsoever. My issue is the touch screen. A few days ago, mid-use, my Droid shut down on it's own and rebooted. After it rebooted, the touchscreen was not working - at all. I tried everything: reseting the phone (many times), removing the battery, charging it, leaving the phone alone for an entire day. Nothing I do is working. I never dropped my Droid in the almost year that I've owned it. There are no problems with the phone otherwise. I can power the phone on and off, the keyboard works fine, and I can still receive texts and calls. Could the touch screen have been disabled somehow? Is the thing just flat out broken?

There is no setting for disabling the touchscreen.

If you have had your phone for less than a year (and sometimes even a little more than a year), you can call Verizon and get a warranty replacement.

I have never heard of this happening without some sort of damage being done to the phone, i.e. water damage, dropped phone, etc.

Give Verizon a call and get a replacement as there must be something wrong with the internal hardware.

Mine started acting up a few weeks ago. It had never even been dropped but all of the sudden it acted like it was possessed. I had this droid about 13 month since the last one failed to properly take a ota update. I have to assume it has some thing to do with the slides because although I never used the keyboard the dam thing kept opening up in my pocket. Anyway, asurion wanted a $100 co-pay for a claim and I said the phone isn't worth $100 anymore. I ebayed a fasciante for just short of $200. I swear motorola does not have a very good track record with me. While this was the best motorola I've owned, it didn't last a 2 year contract either. Which is why I probably won't re-up with verizon if I can't get a 1 year contract.
