can we make the notifications louder because compared to my old ascend the notifications are louder than the admire

Not sure if this would help you, but I use an app called Volume Abuser to turn up and down notification volume and ringer volume on my phone. You can download it from the Google Play market.

Download Volume+ from Google Play, you can use it to increase the volume of the speaker, headset volume, and in-call volume.

Anyone know of a way to increase the volume to louder than stock on the stock ROM? Volume+ looks nice, but doesn't work on stock ROMs.

Volume+ does indeed work on Stock ROMs. The Admire supports up to +10 volume boost under Volume+. If that wasn't enough for you, you may also try flashing the less-than-supported "Gingerbread Beats Audio" mod. I noticed that by combining Beats Audio with Volume+, even a mid-level volume was almost deafening.
