Root Make sprint tell the truth about data

I have a sprint samsung transform ultra and according to the status bar, I have 3G everywhere, which I know is total bs. I have checked the data status in ##DEBUG# and it even says I have 1xRTT when the statusbar says 3G. How do I go about getting this to tell me what type of connection I really have. I am about ready to try anything so I will listen to any suggestions.

Okay. I have done my research and sprint makes a tweak to the services.apk or services.jar or whatever that makes the notification bar always show 3g. I just don't know where to go from there.
